Ashtanga yoga’s Mysore class is the door to freedom

When I host an Ashtanga yoga workshop, I get the same questions every year.

People are anxious about Mysore practice.

First of all, Astanga Yoga has a fixed order and pose, and you practice it every day.
In other words, you repeat the same practice . Little by little, you remember the order and pose.
If you remember, the body will perform moves one after another, without thinking about the order and the practice will be enjoyable.

Another class system, Led Class, where everyone practices together according to the teacher's count.
There are many people who make their Ashtanga yoga debut from this class. So did I.

The sense of security that everyone does together, the teacher leads, and even if you do not remember the order, you can see and copy someone around you.
I fully understand why Led class is easy to install at first.

In Mysore class, each person practices up to the series they are doing at their own pace.

In other words, each person practices individually. The teacher goes around and provides guidance according to what you are doing.
Basically, it is like a self-training session where you practice by yourself.
You can't always copy someone in front of you.

If you're just starting out or haven't remembered the order yet, you may hold back in Mysore class.
That would be natural. So did I.

But it's okay.
If you don't know, the next pose, you only have to ask your teacher.
If you don't know, stop and wait for the teacher.
You don't have to think so hard.
This is also the case with regular studio classes.

Rather, Mysore class is suitable for beginers, since you can make sure slowly one by one and then move on.

In Shara, Mysore, South India, Mysore classes are held 5 times a week, there is a Led class for one day, and one day is a holiday.

I also heard that originally there was only Mysore class, and then Led class was introduced much later.

However, as I wrote earlier, I held back totally.

Yet, when I jumped in, it was quickly resolved.

I also had more communication with my teacher and I could face to myself more and then I could look into my practice.

Above all, for some reason, there was a feeling that I was free though I did not know why.

Mainly because the anxiety was eliminated.
There was also a feeling of being a little independent, practicing on my own, and moving forward on my own.

I felt like I had started learning Ashtanga Yoga on my own feet.

Jump in without worrying too much. This is the best thing to do.
I’m sure you will go home happily.

Now, let's go to Mysore class!
