ギャラリーの白い空間に現れた謎の生命体、はたまた建造物、ポップな色彩と愛らしい形をした彼らは観る人の記憶を揺さぶります。

ロクロという技法、粘土という素材を使って無意識に記憶を探り、それらを意識的に再構築しながら作品を作り上げる現代陶芸家・酒井智也の個展が湯島のroidworksgalleryで開催されます。

酒井が作り出す作品によって心の片隅にしまわれていた記憶が刺激されます。見る人それぞれの想像力や、これまでの経験で異なるイメージが引き出され、自己を形成してきた何かと向き合わされます。そしてコロナウイルスで人との関わりが遮断され、戦争により国際情勢が大きく変化し世界が分断されたこの時代において、社会が記憶によって再び“繋がり”を取り戻して欲しい、といった願いが込められた展覧会です。

roidworksgallery is pleased to announce a solo show by Tomoya Sakai in Yushima, Tokyo. The artist, a potter, manifests his unconscious memory by using potter’s wheels to shape clay and reconstructing those memories as his artworks.

Sakai’s artworks, which appear in a white cube as a mysterious life form or sometimes architecture consisting of pop colors and lovely figures, touch the viewers’ hearts and stimulate their memories. It enables us to elicit “something” meaningful about our intrinsic nature and face it. The COVID-19 pandemic has isolated us, and international affairs are characterized by dynamism due to the ongoing wars being waged today. This exhibition hopes to help people regain “ties” with others by recalling their collective memories.
