Han Feizi Zuanlin (Part 2), Chapter 23.

斉の国の名君である桓公が、名宰相である管仲に尋ねた。
「富への欲望には、際限があるか？」

Duke Hwan, the great ruler of the State of Qi, asked the great vizier Kanzhong: 'Is there an end to the desire for wealth?
'Is there an end to the desire for wealth?'

管仲は次のように答えた。
「水に際限がある場所は、水のないところとなりましょう。同様に、富への欲望に際限があるとしますと、それは、足るを知った時になるでしょう。
人が足ることを知り、それに留まるのでなければ、富への欲望に際限はなくならないでしょう。」

Guanzhong replied.
'A place where there is a limit to water will be a place where there is no water. Similarly, if there is a limit to the desire for wealth, it will be when one knows that there is enough.
Unless one knows and abides in what is enough, there will be no limit to the desire for wealth."
