"自動車”と聞いた時、みなさんはまず思い浮かぶものは何ですか？
What do you imagine when you hear "autos" for the first ?

恐らく、日々、目にするあの”ガソリンエンジン”を載せた自動車ですよね？We guess that might be autos which have "a petrol engine" you often see everyday.

でも、正確に言うと、自動車といっても動力の違いで種類が様々です。
But, actually, there are various sorts of autos in the world depends on the power to mean the definition precisely. 

自動車に使われた主な動力は、”蒸気”・”ガソリン”・”電気”なんです。*1
Those powers are "steam engines", "petrol engines" and "electric motor" which are used for autos mainly. *1

では、その３つの歴史を観てみましょう。
Then let's take a look at the each history.

世界で初めての自動車とは？
What is the first auto ?

正解は、蒸気機関で走る自動車が初めての自動車です。
The answer is that the steam engine is the first power for autos.

フランスの軍事技術者である、
Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot(ニコラ＝ジョゼフ・キュニョー)さんが、
「自らの動力で、トラクション（摩擦を利用した推進力）で動き、人を乗せ、人が操縦（運転）できる車両」*2　という考えのもと、
”大砲の運搬具”として、2台が試作(1号目：1769年・２号目：1771年)した
成果が、自動車の起源とされています。
なんと、250年前です！！(´ﾟдﾟ｀)
The engineer who worked for French forces also known as "Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot" had developed two vehicles as an equipment to transport cannons in 1769 and 1771.
Also, he had developed them based on a concept as "the vehicle which humans could drive with the power come from the traction, "the moment of friction", and a self-active moment". And that achievement is also known as the beginning of autos.
The story was about 250 long years ago !! (´ﾟдﾟ｀)

普通、今もある主流のガソリンエンジンだと思いますよね？
We unintentionally think the beginning of power was a petrol engine,
don't we ?

次に誕生した自動車は何？
What is the next one ?

そして、ガソリンエンジンの自動車が、
あの有名なメルセデスブランド"メルセデス・ベンツ"の名前にもなっている
"カール・ベンツ”によって、世界初の実用的なガソリン動力が発明され、1879年に自動車に用いる特許を取得して、やっと・・・
1886年に”ベンツ・パテントモーターカー"(独：ベンツ・パテント・モトールヴァーゲン)として、誕生します。
電気自動車から100年後です。
And then, the first auto with a petrol engine which is famous for the name as "Patent Motorwagen" was born in 1886 after a long way that Carl Friedrich Benz whose name is apart of such a famous brand
"Mercedes-Benz" has invented the world's first practical petrol engine which was able to use for autos and he got a patent of that in 1879.
It had been past 100 years since the first vehicle with a steam power was born.

最後を飾るのが・・・
And the last one is...

そしてお分かりのように、最後に誕生したのが電気自動車です。
Then, the last one was the auto with electric power as you see.

ここで、自動車に詳しい人はおそらく、”え？違う。”と、おっしゃると思います 。
We know that the person who knows well about autos would say, "your writing is not correct". 

そうなんです。電気機関車自体が生まれたのは、1830年代とされています。
カール・ベンツの発明したガソリンエンジンより30年も前です。
しかし、充電できない電池(一次電池)で航続距離も短かったり、線路の上で
実験していたり、といわゆる道を走る4輪の自動車として実用的なレベルではないものでした。
市場として拡大し、実用的と言える電気自動車は1890年代に誕生したとされています。その点で、ブログでは最後に誕生したものとします。
Yes. Your opinion is correct in a mean. Actually the vehicle with a electric power was born in 1830s. That decade was 30 years ago from the birth of a petrol engine which Carl Friedrich Benz invented. But those were not practical and used on rail tracks.
So, it was unable to recognize them as autos.
Some say the era of practical electric autos had begun in 1890s as the market of them had developed. In that opinion, we consider the electric auto was born for the last in autos history.*3
