ジョン・ニュートン

Celtic（セルティック）は、「ケルト人の」「ケルト語の」を意味する形容詞。「Amazing Grace」は賛美歌。イギリスの牧師ジョン・ニュートンの作。アメリカ人もみんな知っている。

美しい歌だなんて感心しないでよろしい。牧師ジョン・ニュートンは、元々奴隷貿易商だった。アフリカからアメリカへ何千人ものアフリカ人をアメリカに連れていき売りさばいた。巨万の富を得た。悪行の限りを尽くした。それが、彼の商船の転覆事故から、心を改めて、牧師になった。そんな男。

19世紀半ばまでに奴隷売買されたアフリカ人の数

1515年から19世紀半ばまでの間に、1250万人以上のアフリカ人が売買された。奴隷にされた男性と女性、子供のうち約200万人がアメリカ大陸に向かう途中で死亡した。実に17％。現代の難民船が座ることもできずに糞便を垂れ流して死亡する、そんな感じでアフリカ人は輸送された。

ほとんどは、アンゴラとコンゴ（旧ザイール）、ナイジェリア。

イギリス人に限らない。ほとんどのヨーロッパ人、アメリカ人は、大なり小なりこれをやった。オランダ人は、インドネシアで。アメリカ人はフィリピンで。有色人種は、白色人種にとって、肉便器だったのだ。白色人種や東アジア諸国では、日本人が第二次大戦におこなった蛮行を非難するが、あいつら白人種は、それ以上のこと、有色人種を何百年にもわたり、陵辱してきたことを忘れてはいけない。

オランダ人の第二次大戦における日本軍「慰安婦」とされたオランダ人女性たちという存在がある。それは不幸なことであり、事実なのだが、そのオランダ人女性たちの夫、父、伯父、叔父、子供たちが何を数百年にわたってインドネシア他アジアのオランダ植民地でやってきたか？何百万人のアジア人女性を陵辱したかと考えると、あまり同情する気持ちはなくなる。

私の妻の旧姓は、ポルトガル語である。たぶん、数百年前にポルトガル人に犯された娘を持つ家族の末裔だろう。

ちなみに、私の親戚は、英国人、欧州人、豪州人、アメリカ人だ。それが旧植民地のスリランカに集うってわけさ。呉越同舟じゃないか？

第一、はるか昔、私に性行為を教えてくれたのは、フランス系アメリカ人のガールフレンドの母親だったのだから。皮肉なもんだ。

驚くべき恵み(なんと甘美な響きよ)、
