●Carlos Ocampo(Mexico)#11

Perhaps it was also for the purpose of relaxing his body. Tszyu moved smoothly toward Ocampo, the challenger, who was slowly building up a rhythm. Ocampo, anticipating this, never panicked, but calmly landed a series of short punches. Tszyu, however, caught these with his high guard. Perhaps Ocampo was surprised by this guarding ability. He was distracted by it and created a momentary gap.

Tszyu, who had established a rhythm by guarding, landed a left, a right, and a short straight, which hit. Tszyu responded by increasing the pressure at once, and swung a powerful right and then a left hook.
Ocampo suffered damage from this attack, but Tszyu chopped him with a two-step and then a straight right hand with plenty of weight on it. Ocampo took this squarely in the face and dropped to the canvas with a thud.

Tszyu continued to pounce on Ocampo, who barely got back to his feet at the count of eight. The heavy-handed challenger landed a right hand, but Tszyu, who had momentum on his side, was not intimidated at all and drove Ocampo into the ropes, where he landed a right and a left hook in return. Ocampo was gouged in the right side of the face, and crumpled to the ground, bouncing to the bottom rope.

In a fight that could have been seen as a "mismatch," Tszyu showed the difference in what he was aiming for. Of course, the target was Jermell Charlo (USA), the champion of the four united organizations, and on this day, he called for an enthusiastic match-up.

IBF SuperBantam Weight Elimination Bout 12R
○Sam Goodman(Australia)#4
●Ra'eese Aleem(USA)#5
Split Decision(112-116,117-111,116-112)

Goodman, with his fast rhythm footwork, landed clean straight rights and lefts, and Aleem also moved his upper body in rhythm with Goodman. Then he swung a powerful left hook and showed a series of powerful strikes.
Aleem's left hook was never fast enough. However, it flew slightly off-timing, making it difficult for Goodman to react to it. Goodman also extended from a distance that should have been "unreachable" from his point of view. Aleem was taking advantage of his physical ability to strike as if he was going to leap at him.

Goodman, however, used careful footwork to dodge. He did not keep too much distance, avoiding them with minimal space. He did so and returned with a straight, left hook. Aleem was forced to step back and swing away, nearly losing his balance, but he stayed on his feet on the bottom half of his body. However, his powerful swings and lower body stomps gradually sapped his strength. This was in sharp contrast to Goodman, who was attacking and defending with well-balanced form. Goodman was able to keep an even pace with his well-balanced form.

Aleem took the lead in the early attacks, but Goodman gradually regained the pace. The clear game changer came in the seventh round. In close quarters, Aleem landed a left body blow, and Goodman responded with a short left to the body. Goodman countered with a short left hand to the body, and Aleem's expression turned cloudy for a moment.

Goodman had been cut between the eyes by a straight right hand from Aleem in the sixth round when he stepped in hard and landed a right hand. That was the target for Aleem. But Goodman had already seized control of the distance and was using circling and step-backs to see off Aleem's hard punches.

In addition to consuming stamina, Aleem was also being worked to the body, and for the tenth round, he dropped back on his own to recover. Goodman came out here and there, attacking with straight combinations. He then attacked the left body at key moments. As if inspired, Aleem returned with a body shot, but it was too late. He should have started using his footwork early in the round to stop Goodman's brilliant footwork.

Surprisingly, one judge favored Aleem, but Goodman's victory was clear. Goodman now has the right to challenge IBF (& WBA Super) champion Marlon Tapales (Philippines) and is also a potential opponent for Naoya Inoue (Japan/Ohashi) in the near future.
