The first new Marine base since 1952, Camp Blaz is expected to house 5,000 Marines and be a hub for training in the Western Pacific. The new base will put armed forces closer to the front lines of potential conflict in the region and reduce U.S. reliance on keeping large numbers of troops in Japan.
