エンゼルスの大谷翔平投手は、7日（日本時間8日）のドジャース戦の4回に右前打を放ち、3年連続100安打に到達した。米スポーツ局「ESPN」の「スタッツ＆インフォ」によれば、打者としてシーズン100安打＆投手として100奪三振を3度達成するのは、MLB史上最多となった。
これまで最多で並んでいたアドニス・テリー（1887＆1890年）を超えた。投打で躍動する二刀流が、130年以上破られなかった歴史の扉をこじ開けた。

Angels pitcher Shohei Ohtani reached 100 hits for the third year in a row with a hit to right field in the fourth inning against the Dodgers on 7 August (Japan time 8). According to the 'Stats & Info' of the US sports network ESPN, he became the most players in MLB history to reach 100 hits in a season as a hitter & 100 strikeouts as a pitcher three times.
He surpassed Adonis Terry (1887 & 1890), who had previously tied for the most. The two-sport athlete, who is dynamic in both pitching and hitting, has broken through a historical barrier that had not been broken for more than 130 years.
Fans praised him with amazement, saying, "It's so different that the age of history is wrong in comparison", "Ohtani is not a human being", "A true monster", "The best ever", "This man is phenomenal".
