After I was allowed to enter Colombia, I got out of the airport and took a taxi to move to a hotel in Bogota. As I had heard that Colombia is a high-crime country, I was nervous in the taxi. But I arrived at the hotel safe and sound. Bogota sits at an altitude of 2,600 metres and is the third-highest capital in the world. When I get out of the taxi, I was hard to breathe a bit and needed a little time to get used to it. But it was located so high that the city was cool even in the hot summer and the night sky was full of stars. The next day, I flew from Bogota to Medellin, the second-largest city in the country. I had a business meeting with a customer, but it was unsuccessful. So I came back to Bogota on the same day with disappointment. And I left the country the next day. In retrospect, I was very lucky to have had no trouble during my stay in Colombia. In particular, it was a good fortunate that I did not have any trouble in Medellin. It was only after I left the country that I found out that Medellin was known for its high crime rate. It was also said to have the headquarters of a world-famous drug syndicate. But when I was in the city, I was ignorant of it at all and moved around the city. Nothing is more frightening than ignorance. If I had known it beforehand, I would not have gone to Colombia.

　コロンビアへの入国が許可された後、空港をでてタクシーでホテルに向かいました。コロンビアは犯罪が多い国と聞いていたので、タクシーでは少し緊張しましたが、ホテルに無事到着しました。ボゴタは2600メートルの標高にあり、世界で３番目に標高の高い首都です。そのせいか、タクシーを降りると、息苦しく、環境になれるのにしばらく時間がかかりました。標高のお陰で、暑い夏でも涼しく、夜は満点の星空を見ることができました。
　翌日は、国内線にのってボゴタから、コロンビア第2の都市メデジンに向かいました。ここでお客さんと商談をしましたが、うまくいかず、がっかりしてボゴタに戻り、翌日にはコロンビアを無事離れました。今にして思うと、コロンビア滞在中、トラブルに巻き込まれることはありませんでした。特に、メデジンで何のトラブルもなかったのは幸運でした。メデジンが犯罪の多い地域で、世界的な麻薬組織の本部があるらしいことを知ったのは、コロンビアを離れた後でした。メデジンにいる時は、そんなことも知らずに、動き回っていました。無知ほど怖いものはありません。そのことを事前に知っていれば、コロンビアには行かなかったと思います。
