Fewer and fewer know Elvis Presley and Tom Jones. They were the singers that commanded the world about forty-five years ago. At that time, I was a secondary school student and used to buy their records with New Year’s gifts of cash.
     Elvis Presley was an American singer dubbed the “King of Rock and Roll”. He was so popular that his concert in Hawaii was broadcast live in Japan. My parents and collegiate nephews were glued to the TV to watch it. He reminds me of some music like ‘Love Me Tender,’ ‘Hound Dog’ and ‘Heartbreak Hotel’. Among them was my favourite ‘Love Me Tender.’
     The late superstar came back to screen. His biographical film ‘Elvis’ was released on July 1, starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. It runs for about three hours which is longer than usual. It will remind me of the then-excitement.

　エルヴィス・プレスリーは、米国のシンガーで、「キング・オブ・ロックンロール」と称されていました。ハワイのコンサートが日本で生中継される程の人気でした。両親や親戚の大学生などが、生中継をかじりついてみていました。エルヴィスといえば、「Love Me Tender」、「Hound Dog」や「Heartbreak Hotel」などの曲が思い出されます。特に、「Love Me Tender」がお気に入りでした。
　往年のスーパースターが映画で帰ってきます。プレスリーの自伝映画「Elvis」が公開されます。オースティン・バトラーがエルヴィス役を務め、トムハンクスも出演しています。今時にしては珍しい3時間の大作です。当時の興奮が味わえそうです。
