How to learn English varies from person to person. Akira Yamane-san put an emphasis on reading an English book out loud. I do not do it, but I agree with the importance of reading. I also put an emphasis on writing. In other words, the shortest way to improve my English is to input by reading and output by writing. Hearing and speaking is another way to improve my English. But the former is more efficient for me than the latter. The former always helps me keep in my mind more of what I have learnt from them than the latter. And I can make use of them next time. In particular, it is of the essence to write English texts on a keyboard. It has enabled me to think and write in English. For a while, after I begin to write, I tend to think in Japanese and write in English. But the more I keep on doing it, the more I come to think and write in English. I also think it has helped to improve my English speaking. Speaking requires me to think and speak in English for having better and smoother communication. Writing English texts on a keyboard is like a simulation of that.
When I was a salesman for overseas markets, I wrote a lot of emails in English to my customers on a keyboard. It made me feel like I was having virtual business meetings with my customers. When I wrote an email to my customer, I thought and wrote in English what I wanted to say. On the other hand, my customers’ counters and questions came up to my mind while I was writing them. That made me feel as if I had had a business talk with it.
It was really fun and challenging to write English emails to my customers. However, I am no longer in the position. Nevertheless, I still try to enjoy it as much as possible. I am not sure, but it may be one of the reasons why I continue to write English articles every day.

　英語の勉強の仕方も人それぞれのようです。あきらさんは、音読を重視されています。ボクは、音読はしませんが、読むことは大事だと思っています。それと、書くことも欠かせません。読んでインプットをして、書いてアウトプットをすることが上達の近道だと思っています。英語を上達する方法には、聞くと話すもあります。でも、ボクには、読み書きの方が効率的です。読み書きのほうが、聞くと話すよりも記憶に残りやすく、覚えたことを次に生かせるからです。特に、キーボードで英文を書くこと（タイピング）は欠かせません。このおかげで、英語で考え、書くことができるようになりました。書き始めは、日本語で考え、英語で書いていたのですが、これをやり続けたおかげで、英語で考えて英語で書く（タイプ）するようになりました。また、このおかげで話すも上達しました。上手に話すには、英語で考えて、話すことが求められます。キーボードで英文を書くとそのシミュレーションになります。
　海外営業をしていたころは、お客さんに英文メールを数多く発信していました。書いていると、まるで、お客さんと商談をしているような感覚になりました。メールに自分の言いたいことを英語で考え、書きます。その一方で、書いているうちに、お客さんからの反論や質問が頭に浮かんできます。まさに、商談をしている感覚になります。
　お客さんに英文メールを書くのは楽しかったし、やりがいがありました。でも、今は、その立場にありません。それでも、できるだけこの楽しみを続けたいと思っています。確信があるわけではありませんが、これが毎日英文記事を投稿する理由の一つかもしれません。
