Almost all of those I see first cannot read my surname or write the Kanji characters correctly. It is very unpleasant and bothers me since I always have to correct it. It has remained and will remain unchanged. I have found any progress in technology would not help to improve it. What bothers me the most is that I tell the person on the phone my surname in Kanji characters. Nearly everyone has never seen or heard of the Kanji character. Thus, I had to find an efficient way to do it. I have tried a lot of ways to do it, and the best way is to use a PC. I first ask the person to use a PC. Then I have it type part of my surname in Hiragana or Katakana and convert it into Kanji. Then many Kanji characters with the same sounds appear on the PC display, and I tell it what is mine among them.
Thus, I fully understand that my surname bothered my daughter. Thus, I fully understand that my surname annoyed my daughter. Her new surname is one of the most popular surnames in Japan and makes her very happy. It envies me a little, and I also would like to change it. I have had no good experience with the surname.

　初めて出会う人のほぼ全員が、ボクの名字を正しく読めないし、書けません。それをいちいち訂正するのは不愉快だし、面倒です。これはずっと同じだし、これからも変わることはないでしょう。どんなに技術進歩しても、こればかりは改善されそうにありません。なかでも一番やっかいなのが、電話で漢字を教えるときです。ほぼ全員が、ボクの名字の漢字を見たことも聞いたことがありません。従って、効率的に伝える方法を常に検討してきました。その中で、一番いいのは、電話の相手にPCを使ってもらう方法です。そして、漢字の読みをひらがなかカタカナでPCに入力して検索するよう頼みます。そうすると、同音異字の漢字がでてくるので、その中からどれが該当するかを伝えます。
　そんな分けで、娘がボクの名字を嫌がるのは分かります。結婚後は極めてよくある名字になりました。すごく嬉しそうです。この様子を見ていると、少しうらやましくなります。ボクも、名字を変えたい気分になります。この名字でいい思い出は一度もありません。
