I watched the WOWOW drama series “Samayoeru Yaiba”. The original of the drama is a novel with the same title which is authored by Keigo Hitashino. I am a big fun of Keigo Higashino, in particular, his novels covering social issues. However, I had never read the book. The drama is telling a story about hate of father whose loved daughter was raped and killed by a minor and agony of detectives who tried to hunt the father and minor. I was deeply shocked with the drama and was made to deeply think about society and law. In addition, I was impressed with the words “Laws do not protect victims and their families, but law itself. Actually, there are a lot of crimes and events from which laws do not protect victims, their families or complainants, including a car accident in Ikebukuro, Tokyo. Further, a Supreme Court decision on married couples having separate surnames is another example in which law prevails over creating a livable society. I am very concerned that Japan may be left behind the global trends unless obsolete institutions and laws are amended or scrapped immediately.

June 26, 2021: TV Drama Series “Samayou Yaiba”（WOWOWドラマ「さまよう刃」）
WOWOWのドラマ「さまよえる刃」を見ました。原作は東野圭吾さんです。東野圭吾さんの社会派小説は大好きですが、この小説は読んだことがありませんでした。自分の娘をレイプし、殺害した犯人（未成年者）を探す父親と、犯人と父親の両者を捜索する刑事たちの苦悩を描いたドラマです。非常に衝撃的なドラマで、社会のあり方や法律を深く考えさせられる作品でした。特に、「法律は、被害者のためではなく、法を守るためにある」というセリフが非常に印象に残りました。実際に、池袋の自動車暴走事故も、法律は被害者を守ってくれません。もっと、視点を広げると、夫婦別姓の最高裁判決も、住みやすい社会より法（憲法）を優先しています。時代に合わない制度や法律を即座に改めないと、日本は世界から孤立しそうです。
