I had three consecutive rainy days last week. They were also so cold that I felt as if I were in the winter.
It seems to me that my town is quieter on rainy days than on clear days. When I am at home, I hear a lot of noises, like car noise, on clear days, but less on rainy days. It may be my misunderstanding, but rain may absorb some noise.
I have a sound that strikes my ear more clearly on rainy days than on clear days. It is the sound of a temple bell near my home. It runs the sound at 6:00 am, noon and 18:00 every day. I sometimes miss hearing it on clear days, but never on rainy days. It comforts me very much.
These three days reminded me of how grateful the bell sounds. But the temple has not tolled the bell every time. To the best knowledge, it is too small to have space to hang the bell.

　先週は雨の日が3日間続きました。とても寒く、秋を通り越して一気に冬がきたような気分になりました。雨の日は、街が静かに感じます。家にいると、晴れた日は、車などの街の音が耳に入ってくるのですが、雨の日はその量が少なく感じます。気のせいかも知れませんが、雨が騒音をある程度吸収しているからかもしれません。
　晴れた日より雨の日のほうがボクの耳のとまる音があります。それが、近所にあるお寺の鐘の音です。このお寺が、毎日、朝の6時、正午と18時に鐘の音を鳴らしてくれます。晴れた日は、この音が耳に留まらないこともあるのですが、雨の日は、不思議と3回とも留まります。この音を聞くとすごく落ち着きます。
　鐘の音にありがたさを改めて感じる雨の3日間でした。とはいえ、お寺が毎回鐘をついているわけではありません。知る限りでは、のお寺はすごく小さく、鐘を吊す場所がありません。
