I replaced my desktop PC in May. Before I replaced it, I had been using JustSystems’ ATOK for Japanese IME. I liked it a lot since it had dictionaries. But I ceased to use it when I replaced my PC. It was because the ATOK I had used was very old. Since I started using a new PC, I have been using MS IME. But it did not suit me well and frustrated me more often than ATOK. In particular, I am often frustrated when I try to convert Roman characters to Japanese. It does not convert what I have typed to what I expect in Japanese. It is also slow to convert. So I was tempted to buy a new ATOK but gave it up. It used to have a boxed version, but no longer available. Instead, it now has to be subscribed on a regular basis for use. It seemed to me that the subscription fees cost a lot. It has two versions. One is the premium version, which includes dictionaries, and costs 7,920 per year. The other is the basic version, which has no dictionaries, and costs 3,960 yen. In the end, I was not motivated to use either. So I was determined to find an IME other than MS IME. It has to be free and much easier and faster to use than MS IME.
Then, I found the Google Japanese Input. It was available for free, and I immediately began to use it. So far, it is easier to use and better than I expected. But I have still installed MS IME on my PC, just in case. I hope that the time comes soon to uninstall it.

　5月にパソコンを買い替えました。それまでは、日本語入力システム（IME）としてジャストシステムのATOKを使っていました。辞書付きだったので、気にっていたのですが、バージョンが古かったので、パソコンを買い替えた際に、使わないことにしました。それ以降は、マイクロソフトのIMEを使っていたのですが、どうも相性が悪いせいか、使っていたイライラすることが多かったです。特に、ローマ字から日本語への変換の際に、期待通りに変換されないことが多く、また、変換スピードも遅いため、イライラが募っていました。そこで、ATOKの新バージョンを買おうかと思ったのですが、パッケージ版がなくなり、定額制のみになっていたので、止めました。定額制が高く感じたのです。辞書付きのプレミアム版の年間料金が7,920円で、辞書がないベーシック版が3,960円なのです。結局、どちらも使わずに、別のIMEを探すことにしました。条件は、無料で、MS IMEより使いやすくかつ早いことです。
そこで見つけたのがGoogle日本語入力でした。無料で利用できるので、すぐに使い始めました。今のところ、思っていたより使いやすく、良いです。でも、念のためMS IMEはまだPCにインストールしています。早くアンインストールする時が来ることを願っています。
