The other day, I had an online meeting with my colleague. In the meeting, I explained to him an Excel file I had created for him. But the meeting went on for a very long time and left me exhausted. My colleague knew very little about Excel, and I had to explain the most basics of the tool. For this meeting, I managed to get him to understand what I was trying to say. But it does not bode well. So I lost my motivation to work on this project.
I cannot understand why he does not try to use a convenient tool as much as possible. He is younger than me and has a science degree from university. Yet, he knows little about Excel. I have been using for over 20 years and Access for over 10 years. When I used Excel for the first time in my life, I was very impressed to see how great it was. Since then, I was attracted by it and have improved my skills in Excel. I have spent a lot of time and money studying it. However, I am not as great as professional engineers. This is because I have been studying it on my own. I hated learning it from others like my English learning. I could be far greater if I had learned it from others. Nevertheless, I have no regrets about not learning from others as self-learning is the best way for me.
No matter if you will succeed or not, it is important to try everything that is new and looks useful. Otherwise, you will miss the chance to use your brain.

　先日、同僚とオンライン会議をしました。会議では、ボクが作ったエクセルファイルについて説明しました。でも、会議に長時間を要し、ボクは疲れ果てました。エクセルについて知らないことが多すぎて、初歩的なことから説明しなければならなかったからです。今回は、なんとか理解してもらえましたが、先が思いやられると感じる同時に、ボクはすっかりやる気を失くしました。
　ボクには、せっかく便利なツールがあるのに、使いこうなそうしない同僚の気がしれません。同僚より若くかつ理科系出身です。でも、エクセルのことをほとんど知りません。ボクは、エクセルを20年以上、アクセスは10年以上使っています。初めて、エクセルやアクセスに触れた時に、これは便利だと思い、魅了されました。それ以来、少しでもうまく使いこなせるようにしたいという思いでスキルアップを図ってきました。でも、独学でスキルアップを図ってきたので、プロのレベルには達していません。これも、英語の勉強と一緒で、人から学ぶのが嫌で一人で勉強しました。そのため、プロのレベルには達していませんが、自分では納得しています。
　うまくいくか行かないかは別として、便利そうで、新しいものは試してみることが大事と思っています。そうしないと、頭を使う機会を逃してしまうからです。
