It is Maggie Smith who has made the drama attract me the most. She is a veteran British actress. She shows her deft performance in it.
She always keeps her eyes on what happens to her son, his family, and her friends. She often argues with her daughter-in-law. When she finds something wrong happens to her granddaughters, she secretly counsels and supports them. When they have trouble and have no one to talk to, she, by shrewd instinct, notices it and assists them. She also quarrels with her friend but assists her in achieving her goal. She always makes decisions based on changing times with her aristocratic pride.
Her interactions are very humorous and attract me so much. She reminds me of the late Queen Elizabeth II. I daydream the Queen might have done the same things to her family, which troubled her sometimes, as Maggie.
Maggie Smith has been in a lot of dramas and films. Among them was Death on the Nile, in which I saw her first, and has been Quartet, which has attracted me the most.
 I hope to see her show her great performances for as long as possible.

　このドラマの最大の魅力は、マギースミスさんの演技です。貴族の祖母として、息子、その家族と彼女の友人の行動に常に目を光らせます。嫁とは度々対立します。孫娘たちが結婚や生き方に苦しんでいるときは、そっとアドバイスをしたり、サポートします。時には、孫娘が悩みを抱え、誰にも打ち明けられない時も、鋭い勘で気付き、サポートします。また、親友の女性と喧嘩することもあれば、親友の思いを達成するために援護もします。いずれの件も、貴族の誇りを保ちつつ、時代の変化をしっかり捉えて判断します。そんな時の相手とのやりとりが非常にユーモラスでたまらなく面白いです。この時の態度、口調や表現を見ていると、生前のエリザベス女王を連想させます。女王も時に騒動を起こす家族にこんな雰囲気で対応されていたのではないでしょうか？
　マギースミスさんは多数の映画に出演されています。ボクが最初に見た彼女の映画は「ナイル殺人事件」です。スミスさんの出演作品で一番好きな映画は、「カルテット! 人生のオペラハウス」です。
   スミスさんが一日でも長く素晴らしい演技を見せてくれることを願うばかりです。
