China and Taipei (practice)

China sent 71 warplanes near Taiwan including 4 naval vessels around the Taipei after Taipei's president visited to the US to for meeting with the House speaker. The 71 Chinese sorties near Taiwan was one of the most in a single day since Taiwan began releasing daily tallies in 2020.

Taiwan's defense Ministry criticised that the latest military exercises as a threat to security, regional peace and stability, adding that china had used President Tsai's visit to The US  as an excuse to conduct military exercises.

Beijing, which claims Taiwan as its own territory and has not ruled out use of force in taking the island, has denounced Tsai's meeting with U.S. house speaker as collusion and provocation and vowed to take resolute and effective measures.

Eastern Theater, which oversees the operation in the East china Sea and the Taiwan strait reported in a short statement that military drills were being held in waters and airspaces to the north and east and south of Taiwan.

It also said that it is a necessary action to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Last August, China has conducted days of large scale of military exercises around Taiwan after U.S. house speaker visited the democratic island. Those exercises included five ballistic missiles that landed inside Japan's exclusive economic zone. for the first time.

Japan watched the area with trepidation this time. Okinawa prefecture sits just about 110 kilometers from Taiwan and growing concerns over a possible war would have helped Japan push through a democratic shift in security policy and boost in defense spending.
