こんにちは。音楽評論家の和田大貴です。今日は、内田光子とザンデルリンクのベートーヴェン:ピアノ協奏曲全集についてご紹介したいと思います。この全集は、私のお気に入りのCDで、何度も聴き返しています。

内田光子は、日本を代表するピアニストで、世界的にも高い評価を得ています。特にモーツァルトの演奏で有名ですが、近年はベートーヴェンでも素晴らしい演奏を聴かせてくれます。ベートーヴェンの晩年の傑作《ディアベッリ変奏曲》は、内田光子の高い技術と感性が光る秀演です。

この全集は、内田光子が巨匠ザンデルリンクとの協演を熱望したもので、1994年から1998年にかけて録音されました。ザンデルリンクは、ドイツ出身の指揮者で、レニングラード・フィルやシュターツカペレ・ドレスデンなどを指揮してきました。彼は、古典派から現代音楽まで幅広いレパートリーを持ちますが、特にベートーヴェンやブラームスなどのドイツ音楽に定評があります。

この全集では、ベートーヴェンのピアノ協奏曲全5曲が収録されています。それぞれの作品について、私の感想を簡潔に述べたいと思います。

第1番は、ベートーヴェンがまだ若く、ウィーンで活躍し始めた頃に作られた作品です。明るく華やかな曲想で、モーツァルトやハイドンの影響が感じられますが、すでに独自の個性が現れています。内田光子は、この作品を軽やかに弾きこなしています。特に第3楽章のロンドは、スピード感と躍動感があります。ザンデルリンクは、オーケストラをしっかりとまとめています。

第2番は、実は第1番よりも先に作られた作品ですが、出版順によって第2番となりました。この作品は、第1番よりもさらに古典的な雰囲気がありますが、中間部では激しい情熱が噴出します。内田光子は、この作品を落ち着いたタッチで演奏しています。特に第2楽章のアダージョは、深い感動を与えてくれます。ザンデルリンクは、オーケストラとピアノのバランスを絶妙に取っています。

第3番は、ベートーヴェンがボンからウィーンに移り住んだ後に作られた作品で、ベートーヴェンのピアノ協奏曲の中でも最も規模が大きく、重厚な作品です。この作品は、ベートーヴェンが初めて自ら独奏者として演奏した作品でもあります。内田光子は、この作品を力強く演奏しています。特に第1楽章のカデンツァは、圧倒的な迫力があります。ザンデルリンクは、オーケストラを鋭く駆動させています。

第4番は、ベートーヴェンのピアノ協奏曲の中でも最も繊細で詩的な作品です。この作品は、ベートーヴェンが愛したテレーゼ・ブルナスヴィク公女に捧げられたと言われています。内田光子は、この作品を優美に演奏しています。特に第2楽章のアンダンテ・コン・モートは、ピアノとオーケストラの対話が美しく聞こえます。ザンデルリンクは、オーケストラを柔らかく包み込んでいます。

第5番は、「皇帝」という通称で知られる作品で、ベートーヴェンのピアノ協奏曲の中でも最も壮大で華麗な作品です。この作品は、ナポレオン戦争の最中に作られた作品で、ベートーヴェンの英雄的な精神が表現されています。内田光子は、この作品を堂々と演奏しています。特に第3楽章のロンドは、勇壮な気分を高めてくれます。ザンデルリンクは、オーケストラを豪快に鳴らしています。

Mitsuko Uchida and Sanderling's harmonious performance: Beethoven's complete piano concertos

Hello. My name is Daiki Wada and I am a music critic. Today, I would like to introduce Mitsuko Uchida and Sanderling's Beethoven: Complete Piano Concertos. This complete collection is one of my favorite CDs and I listen to it over and over again.

Mitsuko Uchida is one of Japan's leading pianists and is highly acclaimed around the world. She is particularly famous for her Mozart performances, but in recent years she has also given us some wonderful performances of Beethoven. Her masterpiece of Beethoven's later years, Diabelli Variations, is an excellent performance in which Mitsuko Uchida's high technique and sensitivity shine.

This complete collection was recorded between 1994 and 1998, with Mitsuko Uchida keen to collaborate with her master Sanderling. Sanderling is a German conductor who has conducted orchestras such as the Leningrad Philharmonic and the Staatskapelle Dresden. He has a wide repertoire ranging from classical to contemporary music, but is particularly well known for German music such as Beethoven and Brahms.

This complete collection includes all five of Beethoven's piano concertos. I would like to briefly express my thoughts on each work.

No. 1 was created when Beethoven was still young and just beginning to be active in Vienna. The music is bright and gorgeous, and you can feel the influence of Mozart and Haydn, but it already has its own unique personality. Mitsuko Uchida plays this piece with ease. In particular, the third movement, the rondo, has a sense of speed and dynamism. Sanderling keeps the orchestra tightly together.

No. 2 was actually created before No. 1, but it became No. 2 due to the order of publication. This piece has an even more classical feel than the first, but the middle section erupts with intense passion. Mitsuko Uchida plays this piece with a calm touch. The Adagio in the second movement is especially deeply moving. Sanderling strikes a perfect balance between orchestra and piano.

No. 3 was created after Beethoven moved from Bonn to Vienna, and is the largest and most profound of Beethoven's piano concertos. This work was also the first that Beethoven performed as a soloist. Mitsuko Uchida plays this piece with great force. In particular, the cadenza of the first movement is overwhelmingly powerful. Sanderling drives the orchestra sharply.

The 4th is Beethoven's most delicate and poetic piano concerto. This work is said to be dedicated to Beethoven's beloved Princess Therese Brunasvik. Mitsuko Uchida plays this piece gracefully. In particular, the second movement, Andante con mort, has a beautiful dialogue between the piano and the orchestra. Sanderling gently envelops the orchestra.

No. 5, commonly known as the "Emperor", is the most magnificent and brilliant of Beethoven's piano concertos. This work was created during the Napoleonic Wars and expresses Beethoven's heroic spirit. Mitsuko Uchida plays this piece with dignity. In particular, the third movement's rondo heightens her heroic mood. Sanderling makes the orchestra sound magnificently.
