ヨーロッパ経済ニュースEUROPE NNAは2023年10月16日に、イギリスのCMA(Competition and Markets Authority/競争・市場局)は2023年10月13日に、米国のMS(Microsoft/マイクロソフ)によるイギリスのゲーム大手アクティビジョン・ブリザード(Activision Blizzard)の買収計画を承認すると発表した。MSが提示した譲歩案に基づき、今後15年間のアクティビジョンのゲームのクラウド配信権を仏同業ユービーアイソフト(Ubisoft)・エンターテインメントに売却することが条件。 最後の障壁となっていたCMAの承認で、取引完了への道が開かれた。

CMAは今回、譲歩案はMSによるクラウドゲーム市場の競争阻害を防ぐと説明。これにより英国のユーザー向けに競争力のある価格やサービスが保たれ、競争上の懸念が解消されると判断した。

MSは昨年1月、アクティビジョンを687億ドルで買収することで合意したが、CMAは本格調査を開始。クラウドゲーム市場で大きなシェアを握るMSがアクティビジョンの人気ゲームタイトルを管理下に置くことを懸念し、今年4月には買収を認めない方針を示していた。

これを受けMSは8月、向こう15年間のアクティビジョンのゲームのクラウド配信権を取得せず、ユービーアイソフトに売却する譲歩案を提示した。この配信権の売却は、欧州経済地域(EEA)域外が対象となる。

アクティビジョンの買収計画を巡っては、欧州委員会も本格調査を行っていたが、MSの譲歩案を受け今年5月に承認している。なお、米当局も取引の差し止めを試みたが、裁判所に退けられた。
