#3: Track 5
The third double vowel is [ eɪ ] as in the words GREAT [ ɡreɪt ] and DAY[ deɪ ].
So it has many different spellings in English.
Most commonly the letter A [ eɪ ] or the combinations E I, A I or A Y : The sound :
[ eɪ ]
[ eɪ ]

From the starting position, move your mid tongue very slightly forward as the voice begins like this.
Do that :
[ e ]
[ e ]

From there, move it up and forward to finish with the familiar sharp "E[ˈiː]".
Repeat after me :
hey

Not [ ew ] [ ew ], but the sharp "E[ˈiː]".
Once more :

[ eɪ ]

Of course, this difthong also has to get the Guick American Glide. The [ e ] part, last longer than the "E[ˈiː]".
Repeat :

[ ˈeːɪ ]

And the pitch starts moving down just as the E begins.
try it after me :

[ ˈeːɪ ]

Again :

[ ˈeːɪ ]

Now put a GR
GREY [ greɪ ]
before this Glide great

Now a T after it :

GREAT [ greɪt ]

This time put a d before the dip phone :

DAY [ deɪ ]

Now put those two keywords together.
Don't shorten the tongue movement before the final consonant include all of the Glide characteristics.
Repeat after me :

A GREAT DAY [ ə ɡreɪt deɪ ]
(Pause)

Now repeat that same version of the sound on the following words.

CAGE[ keɪʤ ]
(Pause)

SAFE[ seɪf ]
(Pause)

Don't forget the longer first stage and the downward Glide.

MAKE[ meɪk ](Pause)
STRANGE[ streɪnʤ ]
(Pause)

CAME [ keɪm ]
(Pause)

Now continue using American muscularity and the new diphthong style as you repeat these phrases :

SAILING AWAY TODAY[ ˈseɪlɪŋ əˈweɪ təˈdeɪ]
(Pause)

THE RAINY PLAINS OF SPAIN [ ðə ˈreɪni pleɪnz ʌv speɪn ]
(Pause)

Now work through track 5 once more.
Then use the additional list of a words on P. 13 to make up and practice your own sentences.

えーーーっと、先生!そのRが発音できないんですけど・・・

どーしたもんかと思っていたら、YOUTUBE でものすごく useful な動画を発見しました。

なーんだ、そういいうことだったのね・・・

よく、R の発音は、舌の奥を思いっきり持ち上げて、喉を窒息させる勢いで!
とか説明されていることがありますが、
ネイティヴが話している、いろいろな動画を見てみたところ、
私が見る限りでは、そこまで苦しそうではなく、なんだか、
割と、サラっと発音されていて、
(まぁ、ネイティヴだからそれもそうか・・・)とも
思ったりもしましたが、どうにもフに落ちず、
(だって、もし、舌で喉をふさぐのであれば、
歌を歌う時はどーなるんだ、と)
(声、でねなくなくない? と)。

この動画にであって、すっきり腹落ちしました。

ああ、横にカールね、なるほどね・・・。
まさに、That's make sense! でごさいます。
ほんと、ありがたい・・・。

そして、サラにありがたいことに、子音 と 母音まで!!!!!!!!!!!


なんか、ゲラゲラ笑って、動画見ているうちに、自然と発音が整っていくいいい動画だなぁ、と思います。
なんせ、私にとって、発音を練習することとは、自分の動かない舌と口との、長期にわたる格闘なるわけで、ほんと、クッソおもろくもない。

笑えるって、ほんと、大事だ、と しみじみ感じ入りました・・・。
