     Political reform in response to a major scandal and the continued focus on Japan's economic recovery. Those are some of the promises of Prime Minister Kishida Fumio made in a key policy speech in the diet Tuesday for its new session. But he first focused on the massive disaster in the central part of the country. Kishida expressed condolences for the victims of the earthquake that hits on New Year's Day.
     The government will make an all out effort to do everything it can to constantly provide support. I'm determined to take responsibility for the return of people affected by the disaster and the revitalization of disaster hit areas.
     He also addressed the fundraising scandal involving factions of his main governing Liberal Democratic Party. Kishida called for legislative measures including revisions to the political funds control law.
I frankly admit it can't be held. The factions within the Liberal Democratic             Party were seen as groups for money matters and in securing key posts for their members. I'm sincerely reflecting on the situation and have decided that factions be completely separated from money and personnel affairs.
     The scandal has led to the indictments of 10 current and former lawmakers and their treasures. They face charges of failing to fully report revenue from political fundraising parties in violation of the law. On the economic front should have said Japan's economic recovery will continue to be the administration's biggest mission.
     Once again, I I pledge hear that the economy, especially wage hikes is an urgent issue.
     The session opened last Friday. The Prime Minister's policy speech is normally delivered on the first day, but in an extraordinary move, the speech was pushed back to follow Monday's committee sessions on politics and money.
     Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko also delivered a speech in the diet. She vowed to realize a world that upholds the rule of law and human dignity. In her foreign policy speech, Kamikawa said Russia's ongoing invasion of Ukraine is posing a serious challenge to international order.
     I will maintain and strengthen a free and open international order based on the rule of law and promote foreign policies realize a safe world where human dignity is protected.
     Kamikawa's speech follows her visit to Ukraine earlier this month. She stressed that attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force must never be condoned. The foreign minister also touched on the situation in the Middle East. She said she'll work to help improve humanitarian conditions in Gaza and actively contribute to realizing a solution where Israeli and Palestinian states coexist. In addressing the Japan US Alliance, she vowed to strengthen deterrence and response capabilities, emphasizing its role as the cornerstone of diplomacy and security. Regarding China, Kamikawa stressed the importance of forging constructive and stable relations through mutual efforts. She also highlighted the importance of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. As for North Korea's nuclear and missile development, Kamikawa expressed grave concern over the country's military cooperation with Russia. She said Japan will work closely with the United States and South Korea to address the North's actions.
