     The United Nations top court has ordered Israel to take all measures to prevent acts of genocide in the Gaza Strip. But the court stopped short of ordering an immediate halt to the military operation.
     The State of Israel shall take all measures within its power to prevent and punish the direct and public incitement to commit genocidein relation to members of the Palestinian group in the Gaza Strip.
     The International Court of Justice also said Israel must take steps to improve the humanitarian situation. South Africa filed the case last month accusing Israel of genocide. It asked the judges to order an immediate stop to Israeli offensive. Israel says it has a right to protect itself, arguing the guilt lies with Hamas. Hamas said it would abide by a ceasefire order from the court if Israel does the same. The military campaign is now into its fourth month. Gaza Officials say the death toll has surpassed 26,000.
