Introduction

Hi, I’m Erai-Tenchou (Genius Manager).
This is quite sudden, but what do you think of when I say the word “enterprise”?
That would be fine if you will succeed in the business you start, and become rich. On the flip side, if you fail in the business, you will be heavily in debt. Considering the initial investment and the operations cost, it is difficult to have a surplus without preparing one year’s worth of start-up costs. The chosen one who can read the trend of the time or who have special skills can run a successful business. On the other hand, most ordinary people will continue to worry about whether they can settle the payment at the end of month and whether they can run a shop again this month until the shop close down.
“Stability comes first.” “Failing in my business means my death.” If you have these ways of thinking, You might think so.
P.3
But, Is that anxiety true?
I will tell you what “shabby enterprise” is and what to do in this book. “Shabby enterprise” is totally different from the concept of “enterprise” has widely been accepted. There is no need to raise a large start-up capital nor to acquire special skills nor to develop a solid business plan.
I introduce myself briefly. I was born in 1990 and now I am 27 years old. I live with my wife and my son. Although I have no experience of working in a company, I content with my current life.
I started my business when I was in University. “It is impossible for me to wake up, wear the suit and then catch the rush hour train at every morning.” This is way I started my business without elaborating a business plan.
In the fall of 2015, I started a second-hand shop which is my first physical shop. It cost me 500,000 yen for the initial cost.
P.4
After that, I opened a weird bar has a system called “Event Bar”. I made a success of the second-hand shop and the bar, even though I did not make a plan and organize anything. Then, I have been encourage various people to start “ a shabby business”. Accordingly, over 10 sister stores had been opened by the people in the blink of an eye.
Incidentally, I created a Twitter account and I began to give me my name as “Erai- Tenchou ( Genius Manager)”. As I thought “manager” is trite as a job title and wanted to claim that I’m genius, I named me “Erai-Tenchou”. There was no person who gave me compliments at that time. But, no one recognize me as a great manager unless I state that I’m great.

Then after 3 years, I have been expanding my company for no particular reason. The number of person who call me “Erai-Tenchou” is increasing more and more.
It’s all because of these people that I can call myself “Erai-Tenchou” even now. I greatly appreciate it.
P.5
Now, going back to “enterprise”. It’s a kind of common sense that people go on job hunting after graduating from the university or the vocational college at the present day.
According to National Tax Agency in Japan, the average annual salary of the permanent workers in 2016 was 4.870.000 yen. The average of non-regular employee was 1.720.000 yen. However, the average of the permanent workers in their 20’s and 30’s is actually around 3.500.000 yen because the permanent workers include the person who is 58 years old, is working as a general manager at a major enterprise and earns ten million yen a year.
You wake up early in the morning, go to your office by the packed train, then your boss may give you some obscure directions and compel you to work overtime, and also you are worn out and you go back to your home by the packed train again, furthermore
you should get to sleep immediately since you will work again tomorrow. If you live in this life, you can earn the aforesaid money a year. Some may make money lower than the sum as that result was just an average.
It doesn’t matter if you can naturally live the life. Being an employee have a number of benefits. There are some people, however, who cannot live a life as a employee. For instance, Some like me cannot wake up at morning, stand the packed train nor work at a desk for 8 hours. Besides, Some get tired of working as an employee or get sick from working too hard. How are these kind of people live their life?
P.6
You all will be fine. Why don’t you sett up your own business?
“Well, like I have said before, the enterprise takes a lot of money, right? I have no money for the initial cost nor the working capital. There is no way I can do this. Plus if I fail in the business, I will be buried in debt.”
Yes, You can do it. I encourage especially you to do “the shabby enterprise” which I advocate. It has been 7 years since I established my weird company. I sold some of shops I opened and expanded some of those nationwide, then I became the chairman of the chain stores. Now I make a living by consulting and investing in some companies.
P.7
Significantly, This method is successful because of me. If you get a little knack, you also can carry out the method. It is not so difficult, also it’s not all or nothing.

Living your life is not so hard. People who hate to live in the company organization, who couldn’t join the company in the first place, who quit the job, who failed in his own business and who cannot work as a part-time worker for a long time will be okay.
There is no problem.
You have many ways to live your life unless you are going to start your business on a large scale.
Anyway, could you continue reading this book? Let’s just give it a try anyway.

Do not the frightful job any more.

P.16
Let’s start to set up your business if you can’t work at an organization.

Once again, hi, I’m Erai-Tenchou.
As I said to you in the introduction before, I don’t want to wake up at every morning and go on a jam-packed train, so that I started my business haphazardly when I was in University without doing job hunting at all.
When you hear that, you might be thought that I’m a student entrepreneur have high motive. Actually, it’s not true.
I had a desire, to be honest, that is working for a trading company furiously. However, It was absolutely impossible due to attributes of me.

P.17
As I considered my disposition while I was in university, I understood well that It is demanding for me to work as an employee.
In the first place, It was tough for me to attend the university. I just managed to graduated from the university.
Looking back, I could just enter a company if I did job hunting. However I would have retired soon.
This is why I started my business to escape from “job hunting” and to earn my living.
I did not have a kind of big goals that aim to go public my company nor big dreams that make an innovation with my major corporation, but I chose to start my own business by process of elimination in brief.

P.18
At first, I was a jack of all trades. I did audio recording and writing by pulling at the request of my acquaintances.
After that, I opened a second-hand store. Afterward, I started a cram school and a bit weird bar.

Currently, It was too busy because every single store was prosperous to manage all of the my shops, so I transferred the second-hand store and the cram school and I became an adviser at these stores. In edition to working as a franchisor and a chairman of the bar, I promote the concept “shabby business”, produce and counsel businesses. I also run a variety of business, including profitable businesses and unprofitable ones.

P.19
You might say, “Oh, you are the very winner. You can say like that as you just happened to survive.” Perhaps somebody would think “Your stores are popular by the haphazard of chance for now. You will be up to your neck in debt soon”.
I do not know whether I recognize the definition of the word “winner” as you do, but I believe that I’m exactly the winner, because, in my opinion, the winner is the person who can feed his wife and his son. I’m not intend to monopolize my success. Everyone also will feel happy right away if you change your mind.
Regarding the debt: there are no worries about that because I operate my businesses without bank borrowing. You also can manage a business like me. When I started my business, I was an ordinary people who has not particularly skills nor assets.

P.20
There is no need to do painful jobs.

I started to write this book for people who want to set up some businesses at first, but now I would like you are the one who are exhausted from working at a company or hunting a job, who can not work as a part-time worker in a long time, who have some trouble with a variety of thing, and who are not planning to start your business at present to read it.
Why did I write for? First of all, what I really want to say is that you don’t have necessity of doing something arduous. Most of the people regardless of whether they have a job now or not might have some grievance against a boring job or low wages. Beside that, they might think that I’d rather not catch the crowded trains, also that I don’t want to get reprimanded unreasonably by bosses and clients.

P.21
The common values that the best choice is to be a company employee have bitten the dust.

To begin with, let’s find the reason why people to be a company employee. Working at a company is selling your own time to the employer on a contract basis. In other words, It is working as an employee to obey administrators or your boss, based on rules which the company establish, an 8 hours a day, 5 days a week instead of taking 200,000 yen a month. There are some advantages as being employed, for example, you would take bonus pays several times a year, you would receive paid days off per a year, some facilities are available at discounted rate as part of benefits package.
It might be no problem to live a life as an employee if you would like to join the company to work out something you can do only there, or if you are not bothered by this kind of life.

P.22
In addition, company employees and public employees can get incomes steadily to some extent, and It is ease to take approval of the home loan and the credit card.
Furthermore, they are not going to be an emotional yo-yo with the revenue every single say. There is no likelihood of being thrown alone into a crowd of veteran merchants and being robbed of everything one has.
The world is unhappy that they have to force themselves to work at organizations, even though they don’t want to be a cringer any more, and go mad if their life goes on like this.

It had been a best option to be an employee before. There are many private shops and farmers before WWII in Japan. During the high economic growth after the war the number of people work at companies was increased more and more. At that time, If you work diligently until the age of retirement, you could marry and have children, buy cars and a small detached house in the suburbs, send your children to university, also live off on pensions affluently.

P.23
However, this ideal life had broken up completely during the lost two decades in Japan. Employees have anxiety that our company might go bust, otherwise lay off me someday. On the other hand, the management team hope to reduce labor cost by laying off old generations who take a large income, hiring young people at low cost, streamlining work, and adding to employees’s burden. In this situation, It is not the best choice to be an employee at all.
The gross income is around 200.000 yen, and the take-home pay is under 150.000 yen
in certain people, although you have to work diligently, to do overtime, to do a job transfer once in a while, and to catch the train every early morning and every late at night. It is obvious that there are some people cant stand with these situations. I already told you, but It’ fine there are also some people don’t mind these work situations. You hardly have your own time and the time to spend with your family. While you live this life, how in the world are you supposed to marry and to raise children. What will happen if your company which you decided to dedicate your life to goes bankrupt or if you become depressed from working at the company? Not only your dreams to get cars and a home will never come true, considering that you can’t save money because of your low wages, but also you will be unable to make a living soon.

P.24
The person who can’t stand with the life as an employee is not a failure.

It’s not nice to make judgements and label the person who has trouble in working at a company as a failure. Someone might say, “He is a failure, so he will never win the race.”. However, I wonder who organizes the race and who determines victory or defeat.
If you are the one who don’t care about the race much, It would be fain. However, Almost people tend to get caught up by the values which your living spheres have. Everyone believe that we are straight to be an employees after graduation without their noticing. Although, It is no longer the successful option to be an employee.

P.25
It is the time to quite your job when you are disgusted with being an employee. It’s easy. If there are employment regulations that you are able to get a salary during a leave of absence, I recommend you to take off work. Considering you are exhausted from following the regulations, you have a right to take a paid leave of absence under the regulations. After that, If you can’t stand with being enrolled in company any more, you should resign.

There are so many people who feel it difficult to work even as a part-time worker.

There are people who feel it difficult to work as a part-time worker probably. I’m forced to work long time. I work as much as full-time workers work though I’m a part-time worker. I can’t wake up early. Although, in the case of part-time job, you have a variety of options of labor conditions before applying for the job, there are certain number of people who can’t continue to work at a workplace.
This is apply for not only part-time workers but also full-time workers. it is important to analyze you are not good at. I’m good at this kind of jobs. I can deal with this job although I don’t like it. It must be impossible to carry out this task for me. These analysis are essential to start to do “shabby enterprise”. I will explain this point in more detail, but there are different types of part-time jobs.

You will never die of hunger as long as you live in Japan.

If you wonder how do I live, how about expanding your viewpoint? There are many ways to live a life in this world. I wonder what you spend money for as much as that you are not able to buy foods. When you can’t work for compelling reasons, you can live on welfare. You should be able to live a life on relief unless Japan will be disintegrated. I am experienced in providing support for some people to receive the welfare. It happens a lot that the people who live on welfare use all money for liquors, cigarets and Japanese gambling machines called Pachinko at the day they receive the welfare.
This kind of people is not going to starve to death in until the day on which money is paid. I have seen a considerable number of welfare recipients but there is no one die for hunger. I don’t mean that there is no one die for starving in Japan though. I guess that it rarely happens. They manage to survive one month by staying at someone’s house, finding something to eat, and drink at somewhere. I think that they are not good at living a life, but even they can live a life.
Even if you do same thing as these extreme examples, you have ways to survive.
Suppose that the livelihood protection were abolished due to a subversion, what would you do? In that case, I recommend you to move to Kyushu. I heard from many friends who come from Kyushu that there are a lot of vacant houses in depopulated areas of the southern Kyusyu. There are so many edible wild plants. If you couldn’t find these kind of plants, you can raise these edible plants. There are a lot of deserted cultivated lands, so you are able to cultivate crops anywhere. You will never freeze to death as it rarely does snow in Kyusyu.

P.28
We can enjoy a life in which we don’t use money.

Some of people would say, “I get it. We might be able to live a life at minimum, but we can’t enjoy the life at all. What do you think about entertainment expenses?” What is the definition of entertainment expenses for you? It might be include to go for a drink and go to karaoke with old friends. I don’t think you have to budget for that every single month. As for the horse-racing and Pachinko parlor, we need to deliberate whether these are included.

P.29
It doesn’t matter that you enjoy Pachinko parlors, horse-racing, and a sort of nightclubs within your incomes. However, situations will change if you can’t kill time without these things. Would you really need these things for fun in your free time? I have a suggestion. There is probably a public library at the town where you live. At least there are about 300 books which you are interested in at the library. If you read one book each day, It takes one year. It’s obvious but It is for free. You can enjoy this hobby which takes one year without being required the initial investment nor membership fees. Moreover, It is possible to be a discusser when you had read about 300 books in the same genre. I believe that this is “the cultural life”
Roughly speaking, taxes which you payed to the municipality where you live in are being used for the public library. In short, you can take money which you payed as taxes back. Librarians would never say, “You have borrowed a lot of books so that we can’t lend you a book any more.” .
Other than the library, there are many public facilities to achieve “the cultural life”.

P.30
Especially in Tokyo, there are a lot of public museums. For example, Edo-tokyo Museum which is a huge building is located in front of Ryougoku Station. Although It costs 600 yen as admission fee, there are as many exhibitions as you can’t see it all in one day. It is “the cultural life” absolutely, isn’t it? Playing Pachinko parlors costs 1.000 yen in a moment, but if you are off to Edo-tokyo Museum you can enjoy to see exhibitions all day long at 600 yen.
Obviously, It is a matter of “education” whether you have fun seeing the exhibitions. If you are not educated, you are enable to read even a single book at the library. Whether you can enjoy culture is directly result in whether you are a well-educated or not. “I’m thinking about going to gym with a goal of increasing my stamina.” I agree. It’s a good option to kill time. It’s nice to go to a gym which a company runs at 10.000 yen per a month. You may as well go to a public gym or a swimming pool when you would like to save your money. It mostly costs 300 yen or 500 yen per one time. If it is located a little far from your house, You may want to go to the gym by bicycle. You can exercise by riding your bike on the way to gym, after that you exercise at gym, then also you can exercise on the way back. This is also “the culture”.

P.31
Apart from that, most of people probably have smart phone. Which means that you can connect to the Internet. The Internet is the sea of something to kill time. It takes quite a lot of time to see all of those. For example, time flies forever when you read the articles on Wikipedia or watch videos on Youtube.
Going back to the first topic about Pachinko parlors, house-racings and night clubs, these are enlightening. I agree that you enjoy these things as one way to spend your free time within your income. However, if you believe that you can’t spend some time unless you spend money, it is just your misunderstanding. You can find amusement which is for free of change anywhere. It’s on you whether you find enjoyment in that amusement.
As a side note, If you have no habit of reading books or you don’t like to read print books, I recommend you to go to the children’s literature area. The books for children are easy to understand and are meaningful. Momo is written by Michael Ende is usually shelved at libraries. This book is thoughtful even for adults as much as students who lean psychology are supposed to read it again. The little Prince written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is also meaningful. Other than that, funny books is also easy to read: Bocchan written by Souseki Nastume, short stories by Yasutaka Tutui, and short short stories by Shinichi Hoshi.

Books won’t run away, so if you will go to the library someday, your way to spend time will change.
These are just examples. In concluding, being out of cash doesn’t mean that you can’t find enjoyment in your life.

P.32
Tips for living your life while you avoid what you are weak in.

In this section, my point is that you should keep away things you are bad at. This is the best choice. We die in a while unless we run away from unpleasant things. A lot of tragedy are occurred in Japan from enduring unpleasant things. These overwork death and suicide are due to not avoiding what they can’t stand with. People who can keep away things what they are weak in do not die easily. There is the word, “survival bias” means that only winners can talk about things, because losers couldn’t get over the hurdles and disappeared. For now, “you are survived and alive”, so you have cleared the hurdle. Let’s be glad together. While there is life, there is hope.
I’m the one of “people who ran away from unpleasant things”. Now, I’m getting by, though I “ran away from unpleasant things”. Also, I had found tips for being manage to live a life here and there. Next, I would like to talk about the method.

P.34
unshabby summary of this chapter

Stop doing the work which you don’t like
The times, “to be an employee for no particular reason” is almost over.
You are not a failure even though you couldn’t work as an employee.
You can manage to live a life while you don’t have much money. ading this book? Let’s just give it a try anyway.

2. Lets’s start to do “the shabby business”
It is not necessary either a business plan or a fund-raising.

Now you decided to set up your own business. What are you trying to do first? Are you going to make a detailed business plan and raise money with begging at a bank to achieve your dream? You may start to do something: renting an office which is easily accessible, requesting construction work for the inter finishing, buying display furnitures, getting phone line, negotiating with suppliers and clients, and hiring part time workers.

These all are unnecessary. You don’t need to do anything like that.

These are “the un-shabby business”. If you would like to do these business, you can find easily and read a variety of books which is for these kind of person and which flood the market. In the case of “the shabby business”, you will never spend so much money on it. You will not get in debt basically. Instead of that, your shop hardly will close down. How do you run it? I will explain the method now.

P.37
Let’s make something you need in daily life. When you have any spare, you should sell it.

Suppose that you are going to be a farmer from scratch. In the case of ordinary un-shabby business, you might think that you will choose a farm product to raise which is in demand and sell it at a high price to make a killing, although it requirers a lot of initial cost and a lot of work. For example, watermelons and strawberries will be chosen for it.
“Sloppy self-employment”, as known as “the shabby business” is totally opposite to that.
We never consider to raise something is likely to be sold at a high price.

Then, how can we earn money? Let’s say you are live with your parents in the house which is located in Saitama prefecture, and you are a student who go to school in Tokyo. When you attend to some classes, you take a train to school. Regarding the fare: You have already bought a commuter pass.
P.38
At this time, if you take a train to Tokyo alone, It’s just transfer. However, What will happen if you jam vegetables which are produced at your home garden into your vacant backpack? At that time, It changes from just transfer to “transport”. You can save the transport cost completely. All that is left is developing sales channels near your school in Tokyo. As a result, your everyday commute turns into the way to make money.
P.39
What to do is just getting on the train with carrying a back pack which is a little heavier than as usual at the station same as always, and delivering crops to the shop purchases it.

This approach, “To make what you always do change to the way of making money” is one of basic concepts of “the shabby business”. I named this approach as “capitalization of life (capitalization of daily cost)”. Please keep it in mind.

Don’t aim to get rich quick right at beginning.

Let’s dig into agriculture a little more deeply. I’m sure that everyone eat vegetables daily. What kind of vegetables do you eat? You might eat cabbages, potatoes, onions and carrot.
When you start to do “the shabby business”, first of all, you should consider vegetables which you eat on a daily basis. If you raise crops which you usually buy, it will reduce your expenses and elevate your factual income.

P.40
This is also an example of the “capitalization of life”. As a result, it could happen that you get rich quick thanks to a bumper crop. However, this is just a result. You should not produce it in large volume to aim to get rich quick from the start. That plan is for the people who have appropriate knowledge, skills, lands, and another way to make a living in case you failed in your business. If many others who have not anything start that kind of business stupidly, it would happen that you carry a vast inventory of watermelons or that you are saddled with debt because strawberries which you have dedicated hours and thoughts get sick and are annihilated.

P.41
Change the cost which you have to pay as long as you alive to profit.

When I organized real shops, I was running 4 shops: a second-hand store, a bar (restaurant), a cram school and a language school. (For now, I’m a kind of adviser or chairperson.) Putting the latter half aside, a second-hand store and a restaurant are the good pairing. How good is that? I’m sure everyone use home appliances and furnitures. You buy those with money at a kind of retail store, don’t you?
On the flip side, I ran a second-hand shop. I could get a mountain of appliances: refrigerator, washing machine, TV, and vacuum cleaner. Moreover, I could moving for free as much as I like. I could choose appliances suit my needs anytime.
P.42
It’s the same as at my restaurant. Basically, I diverted the appliances and display furnitures which came to my second-hand store to my restaurant. That allowed me to keep cost of interior finish work to a minimum and to make profits in real terms.
I kept the best of products were in stock. On the contrary, I sell my surplus to customers since it’s enough that there is one home appliance for every home. It means that I got at the best one at no cost and I sold the rest. I can, of course, sell the appliance I used to use at my store and take new one when something better have arrived after a while. Considering depreciation, It’s not totally same as perpetual motion, but I can continue to use reasonable new appliance inexpensively and infinitely. This is also “the capitalization of life” (capitalization of daily cost).
This method also applies to restaurants. I’m sure that everyone eat every day. It takes money to make your own meal, then it would be better to make that a little more.
It’s not 10 times price of the cooking material cost for preparing your meal although you make 10 servings. (Buying 1kilo of the meat cheaper than buying 100 grams of it per a gram.) Also, It’s not requires 10 times your effort.
Then, why don’t we sell the remaining 9 serving? Consequently, you can eat the meal virtually for free, further more you can make more money. It’s the most successful system to make change the food costs which is necessary for just living a life to profits. It’s so satisfying, isn’t it? This is the mentality of “the shabby business”.
Gratifying full needs in your life with your own labor and selling the surpluses is, in short, the self-sufficient which is has been around since the Yayoi era. However, there is a few people who can supply what they consume at present. Then, this method works enough even at present.

P.44
“The shabby business” is recession proof and hard to go out of business.
When you adopt this method, you will never fail in the business unless you go bankrupt due to over due. You make your meals what you eat, so you would better to eat it the next day if the surplus remans unsold. As for clothes, you can buy cheap clothes on the Internet or receive clothes from someone.
This is why this method is tough against every kind of recession. Whenever a financial panic occurs, you are all right as your business is dealing with spot transaction.
P.45
Additionally, to have multiple businesses will lead to avert crisis. Even if one of your businesses goes bankrupt due to rent, you can outsource the business as you did before, and you should try to focus more on the others. For instance, When your restaurant generate profit in the situation of running a second-hand shop and a restaurant, it will be fine even if you sell the second-hand shop. You will not be able to replace a refrigerator and dishes with new ones constantly, but you may have barely necessity to do that. It depends on each person what the person is good at and what the one is bad at, therefore not all people can capitalize your all life. However, It is a cardinal rule to capitalize what you can in your life and what you already do normally.

Do not you try to make your livelihood with the earnings.
It is often said plausibly that farmers are hard to make a living. When I asked someone what basis you have, he answered that farmer’s wages are low. This misconception comes from absolute miscalculating. Supposing you buy some food with the money gained by selling vegetables, you obviously can’t eat anything when those vegetables did not sell.
You just have to make your own meal whether you run a farm or a restaurant. Thus, you definitely can eat something regardless of your income.
Most people come to think how much this job pays at the beginning because the way to live as an employee are so widely spread. It’s not good nor bad. However, at any business, you won’t lose anything by having the point of view that you don’t need to covert everything to money: monthly salary and annual salary.

P.47
Making a money with assets you already have.
Here is another way of thinking. Let’s say you have a Toyota HiAce, the car is usually parked at a garage, though, definitely you use it when you need. What will happen if you rent a car to someone who wants to use it for moving home or something like that when not in use? You will be able to generate money with your car which was supposed to be just parked at a garage if you didn’t anything.
Actually, It is provided in the law, “It is prohibited to lease private automobiles for value in the course of trade unless Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism permits it .” (Road Transport Act, Article 80, Paragraph (2)) However, there is a case ‘Anyca” which is provided by DeNA. In this case, debtors/users make a joint use agreement with owners, and Anyca identifies itself as an “inter-individual rent-a-car agent”. Accordingly, It seems that the company avoids the legal limitation. (If you are interested in this topic, you might want to research it.)

This method “making money with assets you already have” is advanced type of “capitalization of life”, so I named it “capitalization of assets”. “The shabby business” centers on this advanced one as well.

Could you understand basic ideas of “the shabby business”? In the next chapter, I’ll describe how much you can capitalize your life and assets.

Unshabby summary of this chapter

You don’t need a business plan nor raise-funding.
“The capitalization of life” means changing what you do everyday to money.
“The capitalization of assets” means making money with something you already have.
Do not try to live a life with the earnings.

3 Let’s open “the shabby store”.
P.50
It’s a total lie that opening a shop costs too much.

There are always noisy people, so it appears men who say, “It costs a lot, so making that decision requires understanding of the risks involved.”. They will refer to not only running a shop but also getting married and raising children. According to these “Be prepared” men, the sum total comes to twenty million yen for raising a child. I attended public schools from elementary to high school. After that, I attended a privet school, but I payed the school fee by my self. I had never gone to a kind of cram schools. Also, as after school activities, I just had took swimming lesson and karate lesson. My parents didn’t spend money a lot on me, and I didn’t require money. I never felt like something’s missing with that.
You can pay money as much as you like, also you can save money as much as you like.
Recently, I have my child, so I would like to not too seriously raise my son like that.

Running a shop is definitely same as raising a child. For example, I live on the outskirts of the Toshima-ku, it’s far from Ikebukuro station as I can walk if I really try. There are many rental real estate for shops which require eighty thousand yen per a month.
If you think I’m a liar, please try to google, “Ikebukuro shop rent”. You also are able to find that by visiting local real estate agencies. You have to pay a security deposit of 3 month’s rent, however, you basically can rent a store under one hundred thousand yen. The total of initial cost may be about five hundred thousand yen.
To rent a shop costs just as same as to live in your small apartment.
Let’s set up a shop as you move.

P.52
Live in the “shop”, not a house.
In my case, I rented a house because I thought that renting a shop, not a house should be fun, and I didn’t intend to make money at all. However, beyond my expectation, mysterious sales was there. The clothing which I took from my parents home were flying off the shelves at about 100 yen.
Clothing which are leaved at home are never bought, but when I live in a shop as a home, the clothing were sold. I was glad that the sales covered my rent. However, junks was selling a lot, and the sales of first month were about four hundred thousand yen. That mysterious sales made me laugh.
At first, I thought,” It’s better to rent a store than to rent a house at same cost.”, then I thought, “Oh! These are selling well! I can save the rent!”, after that, I thought,”Moreover, I made a profit enough as I can live a life.”. It was mysterious, but all started from “I could make money when I opened my shop since I lived in a shop”.

P.53
Incidentally, there are open spaces and a kind of alternative space welcome everybody. Don’t you think that we are hard to casually drop in that kind of place? It’s also the same as churches, though they wrote, “Please feel free to enter. We welcome everyone.” .
How on earth can we enter it? I think something like that.
Shops are not the same as those. People feel free to enter shops, because shops clearly have the purpose which is “selling something”. Unless you sell something which everyone is not interested in, someone will come. If you didn’t open the shop, they may come and say, “Why don’t you open it today?” Actually, most of people are not spend money a lot, but that’s all right. Basically, because, the shop is your house.Everyone knows that you can’t receive money at your house.

In addition, “the shabby business” is a little tougher than living ordinary in the house until the business gets on the right track, because no one help you. Since you are not hiring an employee, you do everything by your self: purchasing something, putting those on display, serving customers, cleaning out the toilet. Unless you determine, “I don’t need funds! I don’t rely on others! I do basically all of things!”, your shop is not going to be opened in the first place.

P.54
If you just open the store everyday, you can make money.

Once you set up a store, you should open the store everyday stubbornly. Moreover, It’s the basics to open and close it at the same time each day. It means missing a great opportunity that you close your shop anyway as nobody has come. Actually, a shop should be a space is always open. If your shop is not a place which is open within a certain time and welcomes customer without notify in advance, people would wonder when that shop opens and would keep away from your shop more and more.
P.55
Whether the sales are there or not, if you open your shop, unintentionally, sometimes you will receive some requests; helping someone to move a chest of drawers, weeding someone’s garden, picking up someone’s washing machine, and giving someone a refrigerator for free, then you will get money on and off.
Even though I didn’t work hardly, but it sometimes happened that customers said, “You are always working hardly.” to me, and they also gave me some meals. These happenings are useful later, so you should value those. I’ll explain about it later.

P.56
It is extremely important that “someone comes” to a shop. I don’t mean that you should open a shop in front of a station which is so high-traffic. (These places is unfit for “the shabby wired shop” since the rent around there is high, furthermore, there are so many shops and fiercely competitive.) On the contrary, It is obvious, but people would not come if you open a shop at the wilderness no one live in. It’s enough to be located in the ordinal residential area where people live around there and where is alive modestly. It is the best location that neighbors think, “Oh, there is a shop at this place.” In addition, the rent around there usually is low.
When you find a rental property located in those place, now you should live in the shop as if you move into a new house. It’s ridiculous paying the rent of a house and a shop individually. It is often that you should not live in a shop on an estate contrast basis, but basically, the owner may not complain to you as long as you pay the rent properly and you are not stir up trouble. Owners hate to be got out from the place and to be a vacancy more than anything. It’s not a contract violation. You just worked overtime, and then you are sleeping a bit at your shop.
P.57
Interior decorations and display furnitures are unnecessary. Chairs are the most unnecessary. If neighbor said, “I got chairs newly, so I don’ t need older ones any more.” , let’s receive those. It will never happen that you are up many times in sales by buying a one hundred thousand yen chair. You can pick up ballpoint pens as much as you want.
Don’t buy something which you think it might be necessary. If you think it is definitely necessary, at first you should spend one week without that, after that, let’s search for people who don’t need those, then if you think that those are necessary, at last, you should buy those. It’s just right. Your mysterious shop which you rented for living in there is sustained as mysterious customers pay for something, unless you pay for anything unnecessary.

If you make a business plan, you should not stick to the schedule.

Here is a typical example, you set the price according to your desire: It costs 100.000 yen for the rent, and a buying price costs about this much, and utility costs and phone and internet costs are 20.000 yen, so I need the sales about this much, therefore this product should be sold at this price.

Usually, this kind of plans fail. Unless you are gifted in business or you are accustomed to management or you do have commercial value, It doesn’t add up. First of all, you should roll out products at the price it is selling well. Based on the price, you might want to determine the rent, utility costs and personnel costs.

P.59
“The shabby business” does not require any detailed business plan at all. Those plans won’t go as hoped anyway. At first, I set up my business with a foolish plan that aims to become rich as I make a Manga are widely received in Arab countries and get oil money. For now, I run a second-hand store, a cram school and a language school, so I can manage to live. However, I totally don’t know what I do next year.
In short, It is wrong that you raise funds and rent a shop and got a license and set up equipment, then finally you open a store. Actually, you can make money and set up equipments as you rent and open a store at the begging. Consequently, you are forced to get a license which you need. This is the order for preventing a failure in “the shabby business”.

P.60
When I started a bar which is one of my core businesses, It is exactly the order. I was often used to do Karaoke with my friends, but we had to pay much money for going to Karaoke bar at night. At that time, I was succeeded in a second-hand shop and I had some cash, so I casually thought to rent a kind of meeting places where we can karaoke our neighborhood (it is the capitalization of life.). Then, I decided to rent a bar in which the previous tenant left things behind. “I’m going to rent a shop to enjoy Karaoke. Since I rent an article, I open that as a shop. There would be earnings a little.” For the same reason as I opened a second-hand shop, I made a bar.

A person flew to me from Public health center after a few days I had opened the bar, So I answered to him, “I’m just applying now.”, after that, I placed a food sanitation supervisor and got a business license. You don’t have to place a food sanitation supervisor nor got a license to just open a bar. In Japan, It is unnecessary to place a food sanitation supervisor if you sell commercial products as they are: selling canned juices as it is, and putting instant noodles and kettle for customers to make it by themselves.
Now, the bar became a core business and a national-chain of stores. We never know what will happen in the world.
I think that an enterprise does not start with ideas, but stars with things which seems possible under conditions which are connections with others and in the environment surrounding you. “This is my dream!” “This business is lucrative!” You can’t strongly keep thinking like that unless you have proper skills and capital. Moreover, you have to steel yourself for continuing to run a shop although it’s in deficit. Actually, My bar was some in red at first.

P.62
It would be alright even though you don’t have money for reverse funds.

This book is for encouraging you to do “the shabby business”, so I have wrote you need 500.000 yen at minimum for setting up a shop. However, some people might not be able to preparer 500.000 yen. If you enterprise ordinary, you have to borrow them from a bank. However, you don’t need that if you do “the shabby business.”
This is an extreme example, but It’s alright that you have no money now. When I was in the university, I couldn’t wake up early, so I couldn’t attend classes enough. Meanwhile, I found well “a part time job which I get money even though I was just there”. As a result, I could make money with working remotely as the same time as I was just there to get hourly pay. It enabled me to save up for school fees and reverse funds.
P.63
Someone might wonder where I can find that kind of job, but, surprisingly, you can find that. There are many part time jobs which someone should be there in case customers come although it seldom happens. For instance, you can find the job in stores sell something high unit price and hardly ever is purchased.
One of my acquaintances was a part time receptionist at a Business hotel which is located in downtown. He was dealing with customers who checked in at the hotel in the evening. The hotel was not so large that there was not a queue. In the unlikely event that there were unsold rooms till late at night, he sold the room who asked him wether there were vacancies or not. After that, until customers check out in the morning, there were nothing to do but he rarely received phone call.
Someone should “exist” there in case something happens, because it causes trouble if there is no one. That’s all for the business assignment though he works long hours. Moreover, staff meals are served. The acquaintance was spend the time browsing the Internet, however, he said that most of them were studying for the bar examination. This kind of works are exactly ideal for them. Certainly, you are able to do another work at the same time as you wait as a job.
P.64
Each person has own field of even part time jobs, so you should not necessarily use this method. If you confident of your physical strength, It would be better to be a construction workers since you can make much money than to be a hotel receptionist. If you don’t want to do anything, I recommend you to stay in a hospital and to be a trial subject. Actually, you may not be able to do that when you take some medicine or you have an extreme type of body. However, you are free all day long which allow you to handle working two jobs besides you just stay in a hospital and get your blood drawn several times per day, moreover, you are served meals three times a day for free. You may anxious about side-effects, but when you get it, doctors will examine you immediately as you are in the hospital. In addition, I think that job would be easer than working as a flagman at road constructions. (Although, some people should be unsuited for it.)
You would be able to put aside hundreds of thousands of yen if you work hard for months and you live in humble. There are also part-times jobs at resort facilities which is popular among students are on long vacation. These jobs are effective to save money unless you have to pay living expenses.

P.65
How to “be a person who can receive an investment” from scratch.
I’m sure that there are some people who can’t work as a part-time worker. There is another way for the kind of person. If you don’t have any reserve fund, you should receive an investment from someone. There are many wealthy persons around me who would like to invest in people who aim to set up businesses. I describe it later, but a cafe which is produced by me is opened in the way.
By the way, what kind of people can receive an investment? Is it the person who elaborated a business plan and return to investors? No, it isn’t. It certainly is one way to elaborate them, but it is not necessary. Seeing from another point of view, what is the essentials when you aim to “receive the money”?
P.66
It has become clear the essentials if you consider “what you pay on”. What do you invest money in? The money is not fixed costs: housing expenses, food expenses, transport costs, and utility costs, but variable costs you can spend on something freely. All of these are very investments following a pop star, buying betting tickets, traveling all over Japan to watch soccer games, playing “gacha” capsule toy machine in app games and buying a share of stock.
What things can you get economic returns in these investments? It might be horse racing and equity investment. There are some people who can earn their livelihood by investing in stocks, but it is difficult to make a living, in other words, to continue to make a profit, by betting on a horse as it requires a lot of vigorishes.
Except for these two things, basically, the money just “go out”. You might follow a pop star and purchase polaroids, merchandising products and DVD videos. Perhaps, you may go to Shizuoka prefecture for watching a soccer game this month, and go to Osaka prefecture next month. You also may play “gacha” because you are able to get strong cards during a limited event. These cost a lot. In the meanwhile, you can gain “pleasure” from them.
It will happen that your idol is getting popular more and more, but she recognize you who have been following her since before. Perhaps, the soccer team finally got promoted to the J1 league. It may happen that you were delighted with drawing the SSR card.
Investors are the same as you. Actually, investors should make a surplus as their job, so they never spend money on things absolutely will be wasted. They obviously consider about returns. However, It is natural that they use money for agreeable persons and fun person and interesting things. In these days, you can see the suitable word “stan” on the Internet. Investors put money to the person who they want to be a stan of, although the person is a little clumsy and naive.
Is that can’t be true? No, that surely is true. Rich persons who are eager to pay money on the youth have already made a lot of money in their main business. In other words, “they had already carried out the get-rich-quick scheme as a main business, even though they are not willing to do it.” When they would like to raise young entrepreneurs with surplus funds, It is quite natural that they put money on “interesting person and things as much as possible”.
Moreover, there is another non-negotiable condition which is “not to make off with the money”. It is unbearable. Investors should be generous and forgive their errors to a certain degree, but going off with money is a crime.
P.68
In short, investors pay money on “the polite people who don’t make off with money and who do something interesting”.The point is, that is not “thinking about something interesting”. Anyone can just think of ideas.
If you say, “I have already started my business, but I really need your investment for this part!”, I will feel to invest in you. However, If you say, “I would like to carry out this interesting plan!”, it is unlikely that you get funding. Investors know well that it is most laborious to change “wanting to start” into “starting a business”.
Additionally, people who “is short of money after setting up his business” try to throw in the money into that. It is not supposed to happen that they start to playing “gacha” with the money invested without proceeding with that plan they wanted to do. (I can’t say for certain there will be absolutely no one, but the kind of people are not fit to be an entrepreneur.) If you are just planning to start a business, you are at high risk of absconding the money. Therefore, you may not be able to receive an investment unless investors quite like you.
P.69
The best is “to bring some sort of deliverables”. It’s should not be perfect. The fact that you could accomplish something without giving up strength investor confidence whether it is low quality or not.
If you want to receive an investment, at first, you should try to do it to the best of your ability. After that, let’s bring the deliverable to the investors. It is no wonder which person you would like to investment who says, “I made it only to such a degree with my ability, but if I have another XX yen, this deliverable is going to be more wonderful like this.”, or who says,”I would like to try XX, but I can’t take the first step due to lack of money. I think that I will be able to do it if I have money, so could you give me money?.”

P.70
He that is always shooting must sometimes hit.

This is quite sudden, but you may know a major cosmetics and health food company “DHC”. Do you know the origin of the name? It stands for Daigaku(university) Honyaku(translation) Centre. The company which originally undertook translation of foreign books is succeed in development of cosmetics and health food based on the knowledge from the initial business. For now, it runs newly a resort business, a video production and a radio station, but it went with the flow when it started.
I convinced that people who will set up “the shabby business” should aim to do like this.

P.71
MY shabby company was started with a plan to make a killing in oil money, but changes of my business were unreasonable. I did subcontracts of publishing companies, real estate investment, after that, I managed a second-hand shop, a bar, a crime school, and a language school. It was an ineluctable consequence of taking it as it comes. I moderately succeeded in a second-hand shop, after that, my bar was successful. This allow me to have a stable life at last, however It was totally unexpected as I said before.
If you whichever you are determined to start the particular business or not go with the flow, sometimes you can strike it rich like me. Therefore, do not just make a business plan meaninglessly, but, let’s start your business anyway. The risk to accumulate experiences of “something seems possible for now” with low initial cost is lower than a far-seeing scheme.
You may want to provide perfect service when you set up a business. However, it is huge mistake. You should have skills to provide service completely. If you are trying to serve perfect service at a flawless reasonable cost, you should complete on an equal footing with McDonald and Starbucks. The odds are against you. What is the difference from McDonald and Starbucks to your shop? McDonald is managed by a major enterprise, on the flip side, your shop is managed by yourself. You are exactly the product. When customers who want to meat you comes to your store, your shop is worth more than McDonald and Starbucks. If there are many that kind of customers, spontaneously, your shop goes well.
I run a bar, but I don’t think that customers come to my bar for drinking. Bar is a space. It is a space where people come and go, and everyone come to my bar to meat someone. If you want to drink a perfect beer, you should go to a beer hall. If you want to drink a perfect cocktail, you should go to a bar in a hotel. Why so many Japanese drinking establishments with a high surcharge called “snack” in the provinces? When people go to there, they are able to meat a female boss, called “mama” and female staff. We may feel all of snacks are pretty similar at first visit, but there are various different mama and female staff at every each snack. Furthermore, each snack has loyal customers. This is way all of snacks located in the countryside are not merge together.
P.73
People who runs a real shop have high social status.
I fully realized from my experience that running a real shop remarkably rises your social position.
For example, If a young person who has no experience but has a desire to enterprise said, “I started my business! I complete a legal personality registration, so I’m a president officially! My house is my office. My business areas include blah blah blah on the Internet!”, other people will just reply, “Hahaha I got it. Good luck with that.”. However, when this young person added, “I have a real shop!”, other people will respond, “Oh! You are the company president!”. To have a real shop enhance others credibility strongly. A proprietor is a socially quite good value for money. You will be treated like this when you run only one shop, therefore, If you manage two shops, you will be regarded as “a competent company president”. You will be able to finance from bunks (although I can’t recommend it). Furthermore, others will ask your opinion in a neighborhood association and a store association.
If you aim for a community-based business, basically, you should not make enemies of local shops and residents. In case you are a financier, built a unique brand, and able to gain a lot of customer even though you make enemies of other shops, it is an exception. However, If you set up “a shabby business”, people will never come to your shop and mysterious interaction of people will never happen unless you are loved by every neighbors. It doesn’t cost to smile and bow to everyone. That’s way I absolutely recommend it to you in “the shabby business”.
The shop which uses resources effectively will be successful.

P.75
You can approximately judge by this whether the business goes well or not. For instance, My company had managed 4 shops and owned 2 cars, so if I could mobilize each these resources, it was good. If I couldn’t, it was bad.
Specifically, I always check wether shops open everyday (wether neighbors recognize the shop always opens), whether people comes to shops (wether shops serve as an open space), wether stock turnover is high at the shop (Customers gradually started coming to the shop which the same product as always are displayed less and less), wether cars are in common use (Car is not being used means inefficient capitalization of resources.), and whether staffs and I always work(If we always free, it means that I can’t capitalization of life and cost well.).

It is not important that products are sold at reasonable price. You should consider about profitability and average spend per user when you aim to make more money after your shop is full or stocks are sold rapidly. It no use thinking about it at first.
P.76
To be extreme, It is okay although you give products to customers for free.
It is okay although you give someone a ride.

I have been speaking about the capitalization of life and property from the begging of this book, but this “property” does not equal to cash as you recognize getting money as much as a rent of shop which you live in as the black. It is unnecessary to have cash as sales at this stage. (I will explain about this at the next chapter.)

Each values are used when shops open, when the stock turn over is high, when the car is running, and when people are working.
It is important that you make all of your property are in use, and should not put them to sleep. Although, it sold at low price or at no charge.

In the next chapter, I will explain the reason why you should get along with neighbors and why you should turn property even it sells for free. Now we come to the most important part.

Un shabby summary of this chapter.
We would rather live in a shop than pay double rents.
If you have no reserve funds, you can receive an investment.
Stores always should be opened, and you should consider how customers come to your store at first.
A business should not be started based on a plan, but based on personnel connections and circumstances.
We must utilize human capital and resources anyway.

Let’s collect “collaborators”.

P.80
You don’t need to hire an employee.
I have already talked to you about one ideal method of “the shabby enterprise” which is “just living at your shop”. Any kind of business would be fine. However, It is the most important that your store just opens. That might be afford mysterious sales to you, and allow you to keep managing your shop.
Given that “the shabby enterprise”’s main principle is to hold down expenses including fixed costs, you do not have an option to hire employees unless you run many shops.
Basically, you’re going to manage everything, but you sometimes feel like having someone’s help.
In those cases, you should ask someone to work without money.

P.81
This book is not for encouraging terrible working conditions, so I didn’t mean that you make people work without a salary. What I want to say is that the money is not everything for the motivating force (the compensation). In short, if you have been establishing friendly relations with people, collaborators will appear and say, “Oh, I will do such a thing.”.
What can we do to establish friendly relations? Here is some examples when I managed a second-hand shop.

Give something to people for free.
Offer a network environment and the space to sleep to people.
Rent your shop as a space to hold meetings whatever these are.
Treat people to snacks and meals.
Volunteer to assist people for free.

P.82
As I explained, the most important thing is that “your shop opens”. Even if the sign of your shop says second-hand shop, you are not banned to do something other than buy and sell products by the law. A shop always opens and is really comfortable. If that kind of place is there, people who have nothing to do would come to the shop. If you serve teas to the people, your shop will become a hangout of people have nothing to do soon.

Under this circumstances, curiously, customers who have nothing to do begin tending your shop spontaneously. They just had came to your shop to have a tea for free, at first, but they will start to help with your shop although you didn’t order them at all. Accordingly, the manager are able to go out on business while customers mind your shop. In my case, my store came to be operated well although I didn’t look after my shop at all. Some people who like cleaning spontaneously cleaned up my shop. Some customers said, “One of my friend are begging for it” and voluntarily extend the market. We call it “make life and property labor power” in technical terms of “the shady business”

You just open your shop, and welcome whoever comes (serving life and property). If you give a product which is equivalent to 1.000 yen to the person who came to there, he might help you more than 1.000 yen worth of work (make it labor power).

Certainly, you can go to other person’s shop to help when you are free. The person will help you with his unique skill when you will be in trouble.

P.84
Money is not all of profits.

In the previous chapter, I explained “capitalization of life” and “capitalization of resources”, but, the point is that this “capital” is not necessary of being Japanese yen, because we do not have to cash all of sales nor draw a bill in “the shabby business”. We recognize it as a profit when someone help you for free although we supposed to spend money on their skills.

Employees and pert-time workers “capitalize directly their own time (realization)”. On the other hand, we believe it in “the shabby business” that “if we serve our life and resources, we can receive skills and manpower more than we lent support, as a result, we are able to capitalize something (saving money generates a profit)”. (Naturally, if we earn cash by doing so, we can divide it appropriately.)

We can utilize skills and manpower which customers have for the living expenses which we have to pay on although we just open our stores. Therefore, It follows that we can generate a profit.
P.85
“correct exploitation of being worthwhile” means that collaborators spontaneously gather.

Everyone has a different preference. Some people mind my shop everyday even though I didn’t spend a single penny as they love looking after a store so much. For “the person who can’t stop loving to clean up”, “to clean up voluntary” in itself is the value.

They just gathered because they have nothing to do and help you to do something they want to do spontaneously (Additionally, the help itself is the consideration for them.).
P.86
My explanation is probably difficult to understand, but, is there that kind of people around you? For instance, the person who keep driving a car when you go out with friends, the person who is willing to work as an MC and do a performance at a wedding after party, and the train enthusiast who tells me about 3 routes are classified by purpose and fare when you ask him, “I would like to go to Osaka without using Shinkansen, so what route is your recommend?”.
All of these services are provided for a fee and achieved business profitability. However, they enjoy doing that, above all, the enjoyment is the consideration for them.

Actually, this is the same as the composition of “exploitation of being worthwhile” is advocated by Professor Yuki Honda at Tokyo University, and is mentioned frequently when people discuss Japanese exploitative enterprises. I think that I can classify them into “good exploitation of being worthwhile” and “bad exploitation of being worthwhile”,
“People spontaneously do something for me even though I did not request him.” This is “good exploitation of being worthwhile (the first phase)”. In short, It is absolutely based on their free will.
In my experience, customers who clean up and mind my shop are the examples of good one. In this case, they told me the reason, “I’m terribly sorry that I couldn’t give you anything although you are always taking care of me”.
General examples of such people include, a person who keeps driving a car all day when he goes for a drive with friends as I said (As he likes driving.), a neighbor who give you meals because he cooked too much (Aside from wether it’s good or bad in the present age.), and a lady who frequently says and arranges marriage meeting, “I know the person who would be a good fit for you. Why don’t you meat to her?”.

I think it is a bit unique example, but there are some customers who “buy liquors at another shop and straightly give it to my bar and pay another money for it, and then eventually drink it”.
You can buy a canned beer for 200 yen in a liquor shop, so If you just drink it outside, it costs only 200 yen. However, they purposely bring it to my bar, and pay 500yen for a surcharge and the other 500 yen for a cup of beer. The total comes to 1.000 yen.
P.88
There are also a customer who gives a bottle of whisky to my bar. It is about 1.000 yen. He bring it to my store and drinks some glasses of whisky with water, and leaves the lest of bottle. I don’t know the reason and I have never ordered them to do that, but actually they are exist in my bar.

“The friendly relation” create consideration other than money.
“When you asked him to do something, he did it for free (or at low cost) because he love doing it.” This is “the good exploitation of being worthwhile (the second phase)”. As I mentioned, the rail buff and the person who willing to work as an MC and do a performance at a wedding reception are classified this phase.

Trail buffs (although It is not all of them) often provide valuable information to me that we should buy two tickets separately for saving money to go to Osaka. He is pleased to display his own knowledge of railroad, therefore, “to answer the questions itself is the value” for him. It is still a different story whether he does it as a business and earn money or not.

The same applies to a performance at a wedding reception. Certainly, we request friends to do it and sometimes give an honorarium, but we seldom pay hourly fees to them for preparing costumes and musics and practicing.
P.90
On the contrary, they give us money gift for wedding. Instead of that, they may say, “Make sure you do a performance in my wedding reception.”
Both of examples are shows you that these are based on e friendly relation”. In the first place, people who don’t get along with you never clean up your shop, tend your shop, nor arrange marriage interviews. You might not ask people whom you are on bad terms with to do a performance at your wedding party. To sum up, “the more people who you have a cordial relations with there are, the more people who you can ask to do something for nothing (or at low cost)”.

How can we do to increase the number of people whom we have friendly relations with? This is what I said in the begging of this chapter.
Firstly, you open your shop everyday. Second, you make it cozy for everyone. Additionally, you say hello to your neighbors and help with their work willingly.
Accordingly, someone eventually would help you and everything around you goes well. This method is not invented by me, but actually, It is can be explained by a traditional way of thinking. This is “the lending and borrowing”, and “the credit”. These cause “changing life and property into labor power”. We consider that “we should make life and property into credit at first, and then, should turn it into labor power, for building assets”.

Incidentally, there are “some people and companies that force people to do somethings which they hate to do it (with paying low or no salary)”, but these are not good. These situations are typically “bad exploitation of being worthwhile (the third phrase)”. This is widely recognized as a problem in Japan. This problem is exactly apply to the company that exploits its employees. (Although the contract of employment prescribes to pay for overtime work, the company does not pay for overtime. This is not a matter of “exploitation of being worthwhile”, but just a contractual default.)
The same applies to people who try to buy other’s a piece of work at low price even though they have no relationship of mutual trust. We often see that the person got blamed on Twitter and so on because of asking an illustrator to paint a profile picture. In this situation, the point is that the illustrator didn’t owe him at all and had no reason to painting for him, thus there is no relationship of trust between he and the illustrator. The person come under fire due to her saying to the mum friend who is a tailor, “Can you make me my daughter’s clothes quickly. It OK even if you make it with pieces of cloth.” It is the cause of the problem that “she intended to make the mum friend do something which the friend mum hate to do without payment”. “People feel stressed when do something what they hate.” Therefore, it is obvious that people never do something witch makes them feel stressed unless they receive money.

If you make a “stress free working environment”, people will work.

When we define things to do at a company as “work” and things to do except at a company as “life”, “work” means a stressful things. It itcompel people to do both enjoyable and disagreeable job in exchange for paying regular money (a salary). On the other side, “make life and property labor power” and “good exploitation of being worthwhile” would rather mean a stress free.
Every person has different things what he feel it stressful and what he feel it stress free. People sometimes get slender wages although their job is so stressful. People sometimes earn a lot with a pleasing job. Therefore, If you provide a stress free working environment, you will be able to reap the benefit. This is the strategy of “the shabby business”.
The same goes for the case when your business grows as much as you have to hire someone. You had better remember that people don’t feel stressed when they do what they like and feel stressed from doing things they don’t like.

Needles to say, you should return the profit to them when you make great profits. If you will monopolize the profits, they will be offended even though they have been enjoying to help you.
It often applies to the situation start-ups fail in businesses after the company got successful because members of the enterprise since its founding leaved.
Prosperous companies and organizations should be generous with their money. If it has become a world that no one pay for everything, the economy will never grow.
However, the way of thinking is wrong that paying money is equal to having a right to make them do whatever you want whether it is a major company or a set-up company.
Currently, job-hunting students has been polarized into the people who aim to acquire well paid job skills assuming that they will change jobs from the beginning and the people who want to enjoy working at a comfortable workplace even though the salary is not so high. In short, the typical life as an office worker which had been provided after WW II has already collapsed. It is quite natural. The times has changed. We don’t know when the company go bankrupt. In addition, your salary will never increase based on the seniority system.
P.95
We have only two options. We have to make a choose wether to earn money a lot what you like or to do an easy job at a reasonable level. It means that we will never work unless it is comfortable (stress-free) in these modern days.
According to a dictionary (SansyodoKokugojiten, 7th edition), a word “worthwhile” means “worth the effort that is spend on it (it helps motivate people) ”. It is not written anywhere that you should change it into Japanese yen. Actually, you can do that, or you can change it into “the motivation”. When people choose the option of motivation, It is exactly “good exploitation of being worthwhile”. As you know, the people did it without feeling any stress.
It is the best to request them to do what they love whether they are employees or collaborators when you ask something. A lot of people will come, if there is a comfortable place where they can what they want to do. When you got someone to help you, you should give them your thanks and make them some tea. Consequently, It will go well as a lot of people will gather there. Now, It’s time to finish thinking about “work-life balance”. The age of “stress-stress free balance” is coming.

making your shop “look active”
Incidentally, It is effective to another thing that “there are some people who you are not hire them at your shop”. It makes your shop “look active”. When customers see the people who are working voluntarily, they will mistakenly believe that your shop is thriving enough to hire so many people.
In my case, when I held just a book discussion club, a customer came to my shop and said, “How mach is that copying paper?”. I replied, “It is 200 yen.”, then he told to me, “You are hiring three employees, so I can’t get it for such a cheap.”. Customers interpret the circumstances to your advantage as meaning that they must be employees and work for 1.000 yen an hour. Moreover, It causes them unnecessary worry about my shop’s financial condition.
P.97
First of all, you have to “make your shop comfortable”. After that, people gather at your shop and spontaneously work for you (“changing life and property into labor power”) Additionally, It will happen that secondary effect which “make your shop look active”.

Un shabby summary for this chapter
It’s not only money to motivate people.
You should move people with “good exploitation of being worthwhile”.
When you provide “the confortable place” and “jobs which people want to do”, they will work for you even though they get no money.
“Stress-free” is the clue to solve the labor problem.

..To be continued.
