Resolution for 2018

I start with the review of 2017. As for the attainment of 2017's resolutions, I barely achieve only Goal I, and it took most of my energy...

Adapting new culture is always tougher than expected. That's why it may be important to dig into the same place for a specified period (three years on stone, perseverance prevails).

Even though there are many cons and it is super easy to criticise the international organisation, I found it is still fascinating to work there and a lot of values I may be potentially able to bring. One of the great things (could be potential cons) there is that I could cover most of the environmental issues from the very high-level (politically) and glimpse how decisions will be made driven by a different kind of interests. This situation urges me to think and practice in systems manner by taking into consideration many viewpoints. In 2018, I would like to sharpen this capability through the practice (Meetup event will be one of the sandboxes for this).

Of course, there are some negative points that I must review. As aforementioned, it was quite challenging to keep my energy level high to tackle the training I impose on myself under the new circumstances. Since working culture and actual task in the international organisation were quite specific, it also took way too long time to get used to, partially due to the lack of communication. It may indicate that I tend to overestimate my capability of adaptation. Instead of exaggerating, I should have addressed adaptability itself.

Overall, 2017 was satisfactory for the goal 1, and it is now way easier to challenge new things in this context. I will make the most of it!

Regarding the goal II, I couldn't move forward at all (Shame on me!). I have to admit my execution ability is quite low. Really. So in 2018, I must correct my overestimation on how much I can do in a year and underestimation on how far I can go in a decade. To do this, it might be a smarter approach to tackle on what I can act quickly rather than a super big business model that requires a huge CAPEX. In 2018, I will simply focus on 1) Blog & Podcast on Unlocking Capital and 2) Creation of the Green Market (Solar DJ and etc.). Think Big will follow.

As for the goal III, I would say I achieved less than 20% of training menu I planned. Meditation becomes the morning routine now, but waking up early is still challenging. Financial intelligence is improved through the actual investment and lectures. Language including English and Arabic saw no progress. (I think I hate learning the language). I stopped reading most of the article written in Japanese. My shamisen practice was disturbed by the landlord, so I moved to a new place to practice it...

A number of friends and my family made my 2017 uncomparably enjoyable and I met a very important person in 2017. How can I give them back these funs and entertain them? The goal III in 2018 will be steered toward this direction. Many thanks, everyone in 2017.

Last but not least, I would like to think about my action policy in 2017, which is "Continuous Challenge and Update the Way I See the World". I think I could update how I see the world now, especially with respect to the work-related issues (climate change & development). However, I don't think I have challenged myself in 2017. I often compromised on many occasions. I know courage is 100% (100%勇気 theory). I will address this in 2018 in a scientific way. So let's see.

Now is the time to raise resolution for 2018!

The world is now changing super fast. Despite uprising nationalism and potential withdrawal of USA from Paris Agreement, the technology development such as battery storage, blockchain and business model which empower decentralization of numerous productive activities seems to be catalyzing the shift toward greener and circular local economy. What can I contribute to this world? How can I survive? Yet it is also true that I cannot achieve something great in a year. Bearing in this mind, I am gonna give the best shot in 2018 as per below resolution for 2018.

1. Action Principle
- Just do it. It's not big deal.
- Do not overestimate what I can accomplish in a year, nor underestimate what I can accomplish in a decade. Keep your continuous challenge in a year.

III. Personal Life - Preparation before the battle

Let's fail a hell lot in 2018. Let's get it started!

Cheers, Nori
