Abolish the "Renewable Energy Surcharge…A system that pays tribute to China…Complicity in Genocide

The following is from an article in Sankei Shimbun by Sankei Shimbun, editorial writer, and political editor Rui Abiru.
As I have mentioned many times, he is one of the best reporters of his day.
This article proves that I hit the nail on the head.

Abolish the "Renewable Energy Surcharge
While the extraordinary session of the Diet continues to discuss issues such as tax cuts and benefits, there is one issue that, strangely enough, needs to be addressed more.
It is the "renewable energy surcharge," which is added to electricity bills to promote the use of renewable energy and accounts for 10% of electricity bills.
If this levy, which was institutionalized taking advantage of the confused state of the Great East Japan Earthquake in March 2011, returned to renewable energy electricity utilities, if it were abolished, it would be possible to lower electricity rates quickly, so why don't the government or opposition parties try to do something about this?

A system that pays tribute to China
Moreover, the feed-in tariff (FIT) system introduced in 2012, under which electric power companies purchase renewable energy at a high price, has enriched China.
A former Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry points out the situation as follows.
"The cost of purchasing renewable energy is expected to be nearly 5 trillion yen in FY2023. Of that amount, at least 2 or 3 trillion yen is probably going to China in a roundabout way.
Another former minister of economy, trade, and industry also said, "We would like to stop the levy," and it has good reason.
In the renewable energy business, especially solar power generation, domestic suppliers have been eliminated, and Chinese companies are now dominating the market.
Therefore, the levy purchase system has become, to an extreme extent, one that pays tribute to China.
In addition, 80% of polycrystalline silicon for solar power generation is made in China, and more than half is produced in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, where Uyghurs are forced to work.
The people are forced to bear the cost of electricity generated by solar panels made in China, which the power company purchases at a high price from a Chinese-owned electricity provider.

Complicity in Genocide
It is not all.
The system, which was initiated to promote renewable energy, is now not only making money for China but also "contributing to genocide" (World Uyghur Congress Chairman Drukun Eisa).
How long can politics let such a disgraceful situation for Japan go on?
In FY2021, the percentage of electricity generated from renewable energy sources exceeded 20% of Japan's total electricity generation for the first time.
The renewable energy levy has also increased consistently until FY2021.
In FY2021, the levy dropped due to an unusual situation in which the market price of electricity rose due to soaring resource prices caused by the crisis in Ukraine, which also increased revenues from renewable electricity sales. Still, it may rebound to increase again in FY2024.
The government has set a target of raising the ratio of renewable energy to 36-38% in FY12, and there are concerns that this will continue to increase the burden on households directly.
Despite this, why is the government not trying to abolish the renewable energy surcharge to reduce the burden of electricity rates on the public?
The former Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry candidly stated, "The renewable energy levy has already become a vested interest, and if an attempt is made to abolish it, electric utilities and others will file a lawsuit saying it's a different story."
Of course, there will be a lot of resistance to eliminating a system that has become a vested interest.
Even within the LDP, there is likely to be resistance, not to mention the example of Akimoto Masatoshi, a member of the House of Representatives, who was indicted in a corruption case involving offshore wind power generation.
However, the public will support the plan if it is said to lower electricity rates even slightly.
The bizarre landscape of mega solar power plants, with solar panels covered with lead, selenium, cadmium, and other toxic substances, covering mountains, forests, and islands, is sure to raise the eyebrows of many people.
We hope Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will decide with "the lives of the common people" in mind.
