The following is from Kimindo Kusaka's serial column, "Tips for Prosperity," titled Prime Minister Abe's Method Used to Win Without Fighting, which appeared in the November 26 issue of the monthly magazine WiLL.
When Lee Teng-hui was mayor of Taipei, he created parks every hundred meters as part of the city's urban planning.
Large green trees were growing there, and there were food stalls where soup and rice were prepared in front of you and served to you.
Taipei women, freed from having to take care of their breakfast, went to work and worked harder than their male counterparts, and they thought that the Taiwanese economy was about to make great strides.
It was indeed a change in the way people worked.
However, the Taiwanese people told me that this was something the Japanese had taught them firsthand and that they had no idea what would happen to them once the Japanese left.
I thought the Taiwanese would be happy to show off their true nature and build a huge building, but I thought that would be rude and pointed to the fact that the sky in Taipei was filled with the exhaust fumes of American cars. "It's better to get rid of this first," I said.
I told him that he was strangling himself by banning the import of small Japanese-made cars, which are ahead of the Muskie Act emission regulations, but he did not seem to understand that people are happy to drive American-made cars.
However, they soon realized they were wrong and drove only Japanese cars.
Seeing this, I realized that "the world will eventually become Japanized.
In the same way, I thought that Xi Jinping would soon reach a dead end.
I felt that Xi would eventually self-destruct because of his tremendously big words.
People in power need to learn to be careful about putting the brakes on their ideas, but very few people like that.
Most try to gather more power and build towers that rise to the cloud.
The People's Republic of China's successful postwar revolution and new constitution declaring land nationalization are good examples.
Still, while that could be done on paper, it took a lot of work to imagine what would happen beyond that.
There is a Greek myth about a man who asked the gods to turn everything he touched into gold, which they did, but even his daughter became a bronze or gold statue, and he panicked and asked them to release his asking.
Looking at China's current construction boom that started with the nationalization of land, I feel this is indeed the case.
Land utility depends on how the land is used, which requires funds, technology, and prospects for the market.
China has none of these.
There is no permanence in what can be done with all-powerful authority.
Most Japanese people understand this, but some don't, and it would be a massive failure if Japanese people who don't understand this and Chinese people who don't understand it form a partnership and do something out of greed.
Even if Communist Party officials become new landowners through land nationalization, they will not be able to make a profit if the development plan is nonsense.
As a result, the growth rate of China's economy steadily declined due to a large amount of unprofitable development.
In the past, if you ordered "keep 8%," you would get reports of 8% growth, but now the reports are going down.
It may likely be below 5%.
So, Japan is taking center stage even in the combination of Prime Minister Abe and President Trump.
Looking at the EU and the refugee issue, Europe has fallen out of favor, and only Japan has the power to lead the world.
The significant development of the Chinese economy was initially thanks to Japan.
Still, they no longer have a future if they don't appreciate it and seem to attribute it all to the CCP.
Ultimately, Taiwan will wake up and decide whether to join Beijing or Washington.
Japan cannot stand idly by.
So what will happen?
I think Taiwan will go with Washington rather than Beijing, but then I wonder how Beijing will react, and then I think of Japan's response to the situation.
Japan cannot stand idly by either. So what will happen?
Taiwan will be more aligned with Washington than with Beijing, but what will happen to Beijing then, and what will happen to Japan?
The story returns to Japan, but in Japan, matters with foreign countries are left to Prime Minister Abe alone.
But then Japan would become a dictatorship.
Prime Minister Abe may say he can no longer care for such a country.
Or perhaps President Trump will say so.
If that happens, I don't know if I should call it a military force or something similar to the Balkans, but Japan does not want such chaos to arise in Asia, so Japan has to say what it wants before other countries do.
As a result, Japan will lead the world.
There are high expectations for Japan, but a victory may come through the Method Used to Win Without Fighting.
Prime Minister Abe is already doing that.
