鴨居羊子女史は日本初の下着専門デザイナー、下着メーカー「チュニック制作室」を設立。カラフルで大胆な化学繊維の下着で個展やショーを開催してブームを巻き起こしました。従来の下着観と女性の身体を偏見から解放したことで「下着の革命家」と称されています。
Ms. Yoko Kamoi is Japan's first specialized underwear designer and founder of the underwear brand "Tunic Production Studio." She created a sensation with her colorful and bold chemical fiber underwear, holding exhibitions and shows that broke free from traditional notions of underwear and liberated women's bodies. She is often referred to as the "revolutionary of underwear."

鴨居羊子女史は、新聞記者の父と絵画・彫刻科卒の母と兄と弟と大阪、金沢で過ごします。大好きな兄は戦死、戦後に父親が脳溢血で死去。旧制大阪府女子専門学校（大阪女子大学）国文科を卒業後、新関西（夕刊紙）の校正係・家庭欄記者や、大阪読売新聞の学芸課記者として活躍します。ある日、小さな舶来雑貨の店でピンクのガーターベルトに魅せられ、給料をはたいて衝動買いをしてしまいます。29歳で新聞社を退社、3万円の退職金を元手に、友達のアパートで実用品ではない着心地が楽で楽しい気分になれる下着をデザイン・製作し始めます。
翌年の1950年、日本初のカラー下着の個展を開催します。当時、戦後の復興とともに衣服の洋装化がどんどん進みつつも、女性の洋服用の下着はまだないに等しいという時代でした。国産のコルセットやブラジャーが出始めたものの、体型を補正するための付けにくく窮屈なものでした。
1956年「チュニック制作室」という下着メーカーを設立。斬新なカラー下着や柄物の下着、レースや刺繍をふんだんにあしらった下着、ナイロン素材のスキャンティや透け感のあるスリップ、ガーターベルトなどセクシーな下着を自らデザインし世に送り出しました。各地で下着の個展やショウを開催、ミュージカルや映画を制作、下着革命を巻き起こします。エッセイを数多く残し「格好いい女性の生き方」として注目されました。

Yoko Kamoi grew up in Osaka and Kanazawa with her father, a newspaper journalist, her mother, who graduated from the painting and sculpture department, and her brothers. Her beloved brother died during the war, and her father passed away from a cerebral hemorrhage after the war. After graduating from the former Osaka Prefectural Women's Specialized School (Osaka Women's University) with a major in Japanese literature, she worked as a proofreader and a household column reporter for the newspaper "Shinkansai" (Evening Edition) and as an art and literature department reporter for the Osaka Yomiuri Shimbun. 
One day, she was captivated by a pink garter belt in a small imported goods store and impulsively bought it, spending all of her salary. At the age of 29, she resigned from the newspaper company, using the 30,000 yen severance pay as seed money, and started designing and making underwear that was comfortable and enjoyable, not just practical, in her friend's apartment. The following year, in 1950, she held Japan's first solo exhibition featuring colored underwear. At that time, despite the progress of Westernization in clothing after the post-war recovery, women's underwear for Western-style clothing was still almost non-existent. Although domestically-produced corsets and brassieres were beginning to be available, they were uncomfortable and confining as they were primarily meant for body shaping.
In 1956, she established the underwear brand called "Tunic Production Studio." She personally designed and launched innovative colored underwear, patterned underwear, underwear adorned with lace and embroidery, nylon material panties and slips with a translucent feel, and garter belts and other sexy lingerie. She held underwear solo exhibitions and shows in various places, produced musicals and movies, and caused a revolution in the underwear industry. She left behind numerous essays and was admired for her "stylish way of living for women."
