クラブハウスは、山間部の孤立した集落の一角にあった。簡単に施設と、クラブでの仕事の内容を教えてもらい、この場所を君が良いと思うならと、すんなり雇ってもらえた。一旦、バンダバーグへ荷物を取りに行き、オーナーに別れを告げた。こういった場所のオーナーは、ワーカーとの別れに慣れている。オーナーは、ふん、と鼻を鳴らし手を差し出した。お前のような働き者がいなくなるのは、ちと困るが、まあ元気でな。と別れの言葉を告げた。ありがたかった。そして急足で部屋へと向かった。なぜなら、スンに会いたい。そう晶馬は思っていたからだ。このシティ・センター・バックパッカーズで大きな苦労もせずに過ごせたのは、様々な事をスンがサポートしてくれたからだ。あいにく、部屋に戻るとスンは、作業現場に出ているようだった。晶馬を見て、ルームメイトが手紙を差し出してこう言った。「この手紙はスンからの預かり物よ。晶馬、スンはあなた達ふたりのことをとても気にしていたわ」その手紙にはこう書いて買った。《晶馬へ−−　　君とソフィの間にあったことは、受け入れ難い現実だっただろう。君たちを側で見ていたから気持ちを理解しているつもりだよ。けれどね、晶馬。ジョージ・エリオットが言っているように、「別れの痛みの中でのみ、愛の深さを知ることができるんだ（**이별의 아픔속에서만 사랑의 깊이를 알게된다**）」君の人生は君のものだ。応援しているよ。スンより》晶馬の頬を涙が伝った。これほどまでにも自分たちを想ってくれる友人がいるという事に。晶馬は、スンに感謝の気持ちを込めた短い手紙を書いた。手紙をルームメイトに預け、バンダバーグの宿を出た。

そして今、晶馬は山間のクラブハウスで暖炉の火が爆ぜる音を聞いていた。クラブハウスのまわりには、他の建物もない。孤立している場所にあった。乗馬クラブと言っても、コースは岩が剥き出しになっている乾いた山路だし、ほとんどが市外や外国からの観光客相手だ。きちんとした乗馬クラブというより、自然のアドベンチャーコースを回るアクティビティである。晶馬の仕事は、客を乗せた馬を引き、岩山の中で決められたコースを歩くこと。所用時間にして約45分だ。山登りのガイド兼馬のお世話係というところだ。日中は何組かの観光客を連れて山を歩き、夕方になる前にはツアーを終了する。そして、陽が落ちる前に馬たちの世話をして、住み込みで働いているメンバーの当番制で夕飯をつくる。朝は陽が昇る頃に起き出して、馬たちの世話をして、日中はまた山で馬を引くのだ。

And now Shoma was in the mountain clubhouse, listening to the sound of the fireplace exploding. There were no other buildings around the clubhouse. It was in an isolated location. Although it was a riding club, the course was a dry mountain road with bare rocks, and it was mostly for tourists from out of town and abroad. It is more of an activity to go around a natural adventure course than a proper horse riding club. The job of the horsemen is to pull the horses carrying the guests along a set course in the rocky mountains. It takes about 45 minutes. He is a guide for mountain climbing and a caretaker for the horses. During the day, he walks the mountain with several groups of tourists and finishes the tour before evening. Then, before the sun goes down, he takes care of the horses and cooks dinner on a rotating basis for the live-in members of the team. In the morning, they get up when the sun rises, take care of the horses, and pull the horses again in the mountains during the day.
