Hello, and welcome to the ice time podcast. I'm your host jack Gallagher along with my co-host Ayano. And today we have a very special guest and that is two times defending World Champion Nathan Chen. Nathan, welcome to Japan. How are you doing?

Good. And tell us why you're here. Now, what show you're skating in.
日本にはなんのショーのために来たのか、教えてください

Nathan
I just finished the show over in Sapporo. And then now I'm currently doing a show in Shin Yokohama for June. It's called Dreams on Ice for the principal.
先日札幌でのショーを終えたところです。それから今度は新横浜でやります。ドリームオンアイスというショーです。

Jack
Other skaters that are skating in the show?
他にはどんなスケーターが出演するんですか？

Nathan
The show will have a couple of well-known names actually. Morgan and Vanessa, the French Paris for the team. I think Vincent Jo also competing or will be performing at the show. Rika Kihira Alina Zagitova, Anna Shelvacova I think Alexsandra Trusova might be as well. And then, yeah, there's a couple of others that I can't quite name off the top of my head right now. But there are few more

okay. Now, We'll cover several different topics. But one thing I want to ask you right away was this talk about Shoma training with Eteri? What did you think about that? Was that a surprise to you?
なるほど。今日は色々と質問させてもらいたいと思いますが、まず最初に聞きたいのが、宇野昌磨選手がエテリコーチのものでトレーニングしていること。どう思いますか？聞いて驚きましたか？

Nathan
Yeah, it was. I mean, it was a surprise that he decided to leave his current coach or his coach. But I mean, I think Eteri's a great coach. I think that she knows. I mean, considering, looking at her students, and also the success that they've had over the past few years. I think it's definitely, something that I totally understand it. However, it was a little bit of a surprise. But again, whatever all my competitors do, that's ultimately their decision. But I think that they clearly know what's best for them. And so there's, I shouldn't really question that at all.
えぇ、驚きましたね。彼がこれまでのコーチの元を離れるということが驚きでした。だけどエテリコーチは素晴らしいコーチですし、彼女の生徒たちのここ数年での成功を見ていると彼女のスケートに対する理解がわかります。だからすごく理解できることでもあります。ですが、やっぱり驚きでしたね。でも僕のライバルたちがすることは、もちろん彼ら自身の決めることです。それに彼らは何が自分にとってのベストかを知っていると思うんです。だから、そこに対して何も疑問はないですね。

今年のGPシリーズについて

Jack
Okay, understood. The GP assignment just came out last week, you got scared America and international out de France. Your thoughts?

Nathan
Yeah, I'm excited about those two. As many people know, one of my best friends in skating Roman Ponsar, he competes for France, he'll be at US competition. So I'm really excited to be able to see him since I haven't been able to see him throughout the year because of school, so it'll be nice to be able to have a little break and see him and also the two competitions, or competitions I'm familiar with. I did both of the exact same competitions last year, obviously with at different times. France will also be in Grenoble, which is the exact same place I was in last year. Vegas will be different, but ultimately, it's a US competition. So be comfortable. And then yeah, I'm excited for them.
両方の大会に出られることがとても楽しみです。ご存知の通り、僕のスケート界での親友の一人、ロマン・ポンサールもフランス大会にも出るのでとても楽しみなんです。僕が大学にいき始めたことで彼とは去年全然会えませんでしたからね。だから２つとも同じ大会に出て少し休みを取ったり彼と会うことができるのはとても嬉しいですね。もちろん時間は違いますが、去年と同じ二つの大会なので慣れていますし。フランス大会はグレノーブルで、去年と全く同じ場所ですし、ラスベガスは場所は違いますがアメリカの大会です。だから心配していません。両大会とも、とても楽しみです。

Okay, I noticed that your heritage, your ancestry is Chinese, but you've never skated at the cup of China. Is that just a coincidence? or?
あなたの先祖、ルーツは中国ですが、中国大会には出たことがありませんよね。これは偶然ですか？
