We had Holocaust Memorial Day yesterday.

I attended the memorial event at my college.

Of course, I was not born at that time, but I can imagine how terrible it was.

In this article, I would like to look back my memory of time when I traveled and saw around the world last year, one day past tho.

Holocaust memory in Shanghai.

The place I visited first was Shanghai Jewish Refugee Museum. Not only during the second world war, but after the war, there were Jewish quarter where no less than 20,000~30,000 Jewish refugees were living.

Can you imagine that they were suddenly exiled from hometown and had to live in strange place? Everything was different from theirs: language, climate, water, food, culture and so on. 

Additionally, Shanghai was also under the war against Japan.

There was no safe place for them.

I visited Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

It was the most awful, terrible, and painful place I have ever visited.

You can see how they lived, if you could say it 'live', and how they were killed there.

Can you imagine that you would be packed like 'sardines' in train without any food, water, for a couple of days for a place to die, or you would have to line up to wait for being killed?

There were no hope to live there.

Just remembering makes me feel like miserable.

I visited Anne Frank Huis (House) in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

You can learn how Jews were deprived of their human rights, even right to LIVE, and sent to concentration camps from Europe.

She long hid in the house of her father's acquaintance with house only because they are Jews.

But suddenly, Nazis open the hiding place's door and sent to concentration camp, which implies they would be killed there.

Undoubtedly, holocaust was one of the most terrible policies which human beings have done ever. 

I want this memorial day to be a day for looking back the historical tragedy and learning anything from it for our future.
