Won’t you demand all nations on earth to have the constitutions of the same content as Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution, which is,renunciation of war, non-maintenance of war potential, denial of the right to belligerence?

Divisions of public opinion, divisions between nations, the recession of the global economy, the invasion of Ukraine, and the crisis in Taiwan, I think that the world is now approaching the danger of the outbreak of World War III. I don’t know what the odds of that happening are.

However, I believe that the original cause of the crisis lies in the fact that nations maintain and increase their military power due to mutual distrust, and as long as this continues, such a crisis may repeat.

So, Won’t you demand all nations on earth to have the constitutions of the same content as Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution? which is, renunciation of war, non-maintenance of war potential, denial of the right to belligerence.

Now Japan has that article, but fails to comply with it. I believe that they cannot be compiled by one country alone, unless all nations comply with it at the same time. Just like the mirror opposite of the arms race, where security calls security, the peace movement can only be practiced reciprocally. I think, historically, it would have come after wars.

I think it would be hard for a nation to do that voluntarily without wars. This is because the state has armed forces and is in a position to guarantee its own interests and security, in other words, it is in a place where it is distrusted by other countries.

But ordinary citizens are in a different position. This is because citizens do not directly oppose the state as a force. Therefore, if citizens across national borders raise their voices at the same time and pass their voices through to each government, nations will lose their motivation to expand their armaments both internally and externally. Citizens are in a much better place to move for peace than states. We don’t have to wait for war to disarm nations if we can be proactive.

Specifically, we will do the following two things.

1. We will continue to submit signatures to the United Nations and the states to which the signatories belong, demanding three clauses: renunciation of war, non-maintenance of war potential, and denial of the right to belligerence.

2. Signature in a State that has achieved 1 requires that State to make recommendations to all States participating in the UN General Assembly to achieve 1.

Of course I don’t think I can disarm all nations in my lifetime. I doubt even my sanity. However, even if it is impossible in my lifetime, I think we should aim for it. I don’t know if mankind will be alive until then, but 100 years later, 200 years later, or thousands of years later, we should achieve it. I even think there is no other place that people should aim for, and that is the ultimate goal.

This is because, even in a divided world, avoiding World War III, eventually nuclear war, and solving environmental problems are the common interests of all living beings in the present and the future, and they are the obligations imposed on us today, it can be the most universal idea. Its goal is world peace, which in turn is the mutual recognition of one’s own freedom and that of others, the mutual recognition of one’s and others’ reason, where duty coincides with the aspiration for freedom.

If we fail to solve environmental problems or avoid World War III, and damage the future environment for survival, we will become historical sinners. On the contrary, if we start a movement to eradicate war, and proceed with the disarmament of the world, we will get closer to a world where people of the present and future can live safely.

Even if the constitution were to be revised in Japan, the purpose would not change. We will continue to collect and submit signatures until it becomes a reality.

If that is achieved, I believe that a piece of history will remain as something more precious than any conflict.

Why not start a movement that will go down in world history, spreading the light of Article of anti-war throughout the world?

And, let’s make this signature itself a piece of history, even if we can’t get that harvest in our lifetime. Let’s make the history that we have lived together and prayed for peace, which does not tell anything but just our proper names. Let’s make the history which our names lead to and rest in, for hundreds, thousands, and tens of thousands of years later.
