ここに戻ってくることは、おそらくないだろう。そんな思いを抱きながら歩く街の風景は瑞々しさと鮮やかさに満ちていた。

「ここではないどこか」への好奇心がたたって、世界を旅した。すべてが「未知」だった。たくさんの風景と人々に出会い、多くの写真を撮った。

日本で生きていくと決め、2011年3月にイギリスから帰国した。それ以降、写真を撮らなくなり、遂にはカメラも売ってしまった。おそらく日本が「既知」だったからだと思い返す。

働いていれば、辛い時期もある。そんな時、過去に旅した風景や「わたしの小さな世界とわたしが旅した国々の街が地続きである」という確かな事実を心の慰めにしていた。

写真再開のきっかけは子供の誕生だ。妻と話し合い、子供の成長を見届けるために貯金を崩して随分と不相応なカメラを買った。

数年ぶりにカメラを通して見る世界は、これまでと全く異なって見えた。いつしか被写体は子供から風景やスナップへと変わっていった。

そして気づいた。カメラは「既知」の中に「未知」を見出す方法論だった。

気づけば行き場のない写真が溜まっていた。

I probably won't be back here. The scenery of the city, walking with such thoughts, was full of freshness and vividness. Curious about "somewhere not here," I traveled around the world.

Everything was "unknown." I met many landscapes and people. And I took a lot of pictures without knowing the function or technique.

I decided to live in Japan and returned there from England in March 2011. After that, I stopped taking pictures and finally sold my camera. I think it was probably because Japan was "known."

During a hard time, I think that the scenery I traveled in the past and the fact that "my little world and the cities of the countries I traveled to are continuous" helped me a lot.

The reason for resuming photography was the birth of a child. I talked with my wife, broke our savings, and bought an expensive camera to capture how my daughter grew up.

I never thought that the world I saw through the finder looked completely different from a long time ago. Eventually, the subject changed from a child to a landscape and snap. But then, I realized that the camera was a methodology to find "unknown" in "known."

When I noticed, there were loads of photos with nowhere to go.
Yeah, Bresson was right.
