ディラン研究書を少しづつ紹介しています。今回は Seth Rogovoy, 'Bob Dylan: Prophet, Mystic, Poet' を紹介します。ディランとユダヤ教の関係を探る労作です。

一読して、一般のボブ・ディランのファンというより、「ユダヤ人」ボブ・ディランに関心がある人向けと分かる。

用語説明

前書きより前に、本書で用いる用語の説明がある。そこには生まれた時の名前 Robert Allen Zimmerman のことに始まり、'Bible' という用語をヘブライ語の 'Torah' と同義語として用いること、なぜ 'Old Testament'「旧約聖書」の語を用いないか、'Jesus' とは言及するが 'Christ' とは付けないこと等々が説かれる。

聖書の説明のなかに 'Chronicles'「歴代誌」のことが出てくる。ディランが2004年の自伝のタイトル（'Chronicles: Volume One'）をここから取ったと著者は言う。
