英詩のマガジンの本配信、今月3本目です。歌われる詩の2回めです。今回はボブ・ディラン7枚目のアルバム 'Blonde on Blonde' (1966) に収められた 'Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again' です(「メンフィス・ブルース・アゲイン」)。

この歌が録音されたのは1966年2月16日(テーク20; Studio A, Nashville)。

タイトルにある Mobile「モービール」はアラバマ州の都市の名前です。

ビート世代の文学の影響があると言われる歌です。ナンセンスの極みと評される2連でシェークスピアが横丁でフランス娘に話しかけますが、横丁のフランス娘というのはディランの作品では二度目です。一度目は〈ボブ・ディランの115番目の夢〉でした。

3連のモナは線路から遠ざかれと言い、5連の上院議員は息子の結婚式への無料券を銃を突きつけて配ります。歌は全体で9連からなり、どれも同じ質問で終わります。

いったいこの歌はどんな歌なのでしょう。考えてみます。詩テクストはリクスらによる校訂版 (2014) を用います。
