ディラン研究書を少しづつ紹介しています。今回はディランが書かなかった歌（カバー）についてのデレク・バーカの研究書などを紹介します。

Derek Barker, 'The Songs He Didn't Write: Bob Dylan Under the Influence' (Chrome Dreams, 2009)

ボブ・ディランが作った歌については膨大な研究がある。が、ディランが歌っていながら自分で書いていない歌についての研究書は珍しい。

しかし、よく考えると、ディランはいろいろな音楽伝統の影響を受けており、それを考えることは有益だ。ディラン自身の創作の解明にも役立つし、伝統のなかにディランをどう位置づけるかについても示唆を与えてくれる。

ディランが相当な音楽マニアであることは、彼が源泉としている音源がかなりディープなものだと知っているファンには、おなじみのことだ。それだけに、彼に影響を与えた音楽について調べることは、結構な深掘りになることがある。ソースそのもののアクセスが困難なことも多いが、本書はその深掘り要求にかなり応えてくれる。

例えば、'Girl on the Greenbriar Shore' という歌がある。名盤のほまれ高い 'Tell Tale Signs: Bootleg Series 8' に収められている。といっても、ディランの公式盤には収められていないので、ファン以外には知られていないかもしれない。ともあれ、この歌についてディランがこう語っている（本書から）。

「ある本」でこの歌を見つけたというのだが、その本とは何か、というところから本書の記述はスタートする。
