Hello. today I actually wanted to talk about American souvenirs that I always bring to Japan, but due to an emergency, I wanted to share this story.  I will change the topic, so please watch until the end.

After midnight on March 24, 2021, my husband was about to leave the office. He headed to the parking lot where the car was parked and muttered " fuck".
(although he usually doesn't say such words). The window on the passenger seat side was shattered, the inside of the car was devastated, and everything was stolen.
He contacted the police immediately. After talking to the police, he finally got home around 2 o'clock.

This is just a recent story.

The next day, when we checked several of the company's surveillance cameras, we found that the crime was committed by two perps, around 00:07.   It happened about 5 minutes before my husband left the company. The culprit was a pair of young men with a backpack riding bicycles. I think it was fortunate that he didn't come out at the time of the crime.

In addition to being two perps, they may have had guns or knives.  I hate to imagine that, but it could have happened.  He was really lucky that he didn't encounter the criminals and had no injuries or worse. There are several video clips showing the criminals, and if it could deter crime, I wish we could expose it to the internet.  I hope the criminals will be arrested, but it will be difficult just by knowing gender and appearance. It may be difficult to arrest  unless they were caught committing the crime.

In the United States these days, while the pandemic has raged, there are hate crimes for Asians and increased criminal incidents. Still, I have never been victimized by even minor crimes here.

Before I moved to the United States, I didn't know the reality of the United States at all, and I had a stereotypical belief that the United States was a crime empire due to the influence of Hollywood crime movies, so I thought that the United States was a very dangerous country. (For all US citizen who are reading this, I'm sorry if you feel bad after reading this. This was my perception from biased information.) For the first six months after immigrating, I was a little scared to walk alone. I felt that criminals were among the people who passed me.  However, in reality, even a single minor crime has never come up since I came to the United States.   I am relieved that it is not so dangerous as long as I choose the time and place. I am living with peace of mind.

However, just because I have never been involved, in fact, there are still many gun crimes. I've heard several news of shooting incidents in my neighborhood since the beginning of this year. The number of crimes is terrifyingly high compared to Japan especially gun crimes.
It's hard to believe for any Japanese, as we are not allowed to carry guns in Japan on any occasion other than police officers, that there are actually few gun controls in the United States.　（Laws vary from state to state.）　The reality is that if anyone can carry a gun, even those vandalizing cars, it can result in very serious injuries or even worse.

Even in Japan, there is car vandalism. However, the risk of the opponent holding a gun is almost zero.

I'm glad he didn't face the criminal this time, but I'm horrified to think what could  have been possible if he was facing the criminal. I think it was really lucky that it was only damage to the car and theft.

Under the circumstances of covid-19, he goes to the office about two days a week with a later shift in order to reduce the risk of infection as much as possible.
So, what if he happened to encounter a criminal in a situation where no one was at work? If he was confronted by criminal and criminal got upset, fired a gun and hit him, and maybe no one could find him until morning. It may have happened.

Considering the worst, I think that could have happened. My husband was depressed for a while thinking about it. The more I think about it, the more horrifying it is. Do US citizens really benefit from having a gun for the general public? Isn't the disadvantage bigger? I think it is one of the things that should be seriously considered for the future of United States.

Well, this is out of the main subject, so I will leave it here.

So, as for the specific damage this time, first of all, one car window was shattered to pieces, and about 200 dollars in emergency cash in the dash compartment, cheap sunglasses bought at Ross (how much could a thief benefit from this?),  a tire pressure gauge (Is it worth to take it???How much can you sell it at pawn shop?) , and a cheap electronic device. Considering the cost of repairing the broken glass , the total damage are about $500-600.

The criminal got $ 200 in cash, plus a few dollars (if stolen things was sold at the pawn shop). Is there any value for this to take a big risk ? Worth to take a big risk? Considering the effort and risk of committing such a crime, I feel that the risk is greater.　I have to say that it is a job with poor benefits.  Criminal might have a chance to go to the jail or got seriously injured for getting only $200.

In the unlikely event that my husband is a black belt of judo and karate, and he is a muscular man who always carries a gun and a knife, criminals may be injured or killed, or will be found by the police and arrested. I can only say that they are doing a job that does not match the reward.

Well, they can't imagine that, so they commit a crime. I feel there's a need for education. If you have a decent education, you can see how bad a crime like this is in terms of cost and performance.

Well, they're stupid enough and can't even imagine that, so I'm sure they commit crimes like this. I really think the criminal like this is just a fool. I am now on a rant to slander these perps.

Anyway, it was around 2 o'clock in the middle of the night that my husband came back safely and was relieved. Oh, and I'm glad that the function of the car itself wasn't  affected.  If the car couldn't move at that hour, that's so much more trouble.

However, when he got home safely and calmly, I started my anger boiled up. What is wrong with a person who steals or damages someone's things?  Why are some low lives who can actively bother others and live?  Some people blame the large gap between rich and poor and the structure of society for all crimes, but in the end, it's up to you to commit or not commit a crime. I really wish there were no such shit-like crimes.

I want to tell these perps.

I feel like I want to punch them as much as I can. Well, I can't. For the time being, I want them to be caught properly and prosecuted.

皆さんこんにちわ。本来今日は、アメリカで私がいつも買って帰るアメリカのお土産についてお話ししたかったのですが、緊急自体が起こったため、話題を変えてお送りします。ぜひ最後までご覧ください。

２０２１年３月２４日午前０時過ぎ、私の旦那は職場を出ようとしていた。車の停めてある駐車場に向かった彼は思わずFUckと呟いた。（普段はそんな単語を発さない人ですが）助手席側の窓が粉々に砕け散っていた。もちろん、車の中は荒らされていて、めぼしいものは全て盗まれていました。
即座に警察に連絡。状況見聞を行なって、結局家にたどり着いたのは２時前でした。

というわけで、これ、つい最近のお話です。

次の日、会社の監視カメラの数台を確認すると、二人組による犯行だったことがわかりました。００時７分ごろ。旦那が会社を出る約５分前の出来事でした。犯人は、自転車に乗ったバックパックの二人組の若い男性でした。本当に犯行時に鉢合わせなかったことが不幸中の幸いだったと思います。相手は二人組だということに加え、何を持っているか、もしかしたら銃やナイフを所持していたかもしれません。そう言う事を想像するのも嫌ですが、現実的にそういうことが起こりえた、と言うことが恐ろしい。ものを取られただけで済んだ事は本当に不幸中の幸いだと思います。犯人たちの姿が映ったビデオクリップが数個ありますが、もしも犯人逮捕に繋がるなら、まじで、ネットに晒しあげたい気分でいっぱいです。犯人たちが捕まってくれる事を願いますが、性別や背格好だけでは、なかなか難しいでしょう。現実的にはこういった犯罪は現行犯でないと検挙は難しいのかもしれませんね。

昨今アメリカでは、このコロナがなかなか収束しない中、アジア人に向けてのヘイトクライムなんてものがあったり、物騒な事件があります。それでも、私は今までアメリカで軽犯罪的なものにすら巻き込まれたことはありませんでした。

渡米する前は、アメリカの実際のところを全く知らず、ハリウッドの犯罪映画の影響でアメリカは犯罪帝国だ、なんてステレオタイプ的な思い込みがあったので、アメリカって国は怖い国だ、と思い込んでいました。（アメリカ人のみなさん、これを読んで気分を悪くしたらすみません。これは無知な私の過去のイメージです。）。移住して、最初の半年は一人で歩くのも怖くてちょっと、と言う感じでした。すれ違う人、すれ違う人の中に犯罪者が紛れているような気がしていたのです。ですが、実際のところ、渡米してからは一回も軽犯罪ですら犯罪に巻き込まれるようなことはなかったし、時間や場所さえ選べばそれほど危険なこともない、と最近では割と安心し切って生活していました。

しかし、自分が巻き込まれたことがないだけで、実際は、やはり身近なところでも銃による犯罪はあるわけで、今年に入ってからも数件、近所で発砲事件のニュースを耳にしましたし、犯罪件数は日本に比べたら恐ろしいほど高い国です。特に、銃による犯罪については一般市民が銃を持つことを許されていない日本人からするとありえないのですが、あり得ないと言っても、現実にアメリカでは銃規制がなされていません。誰でも銃が持てるとなると、こういった車上荒らしでも下手をすれば、非常に重篤な怪我を負わされたり、もっと悪いことが起こるかもしれない、という現実があります。

日本でも車上荒らし、というのは存在します。しかし、相手が銃を持っている危険性は、ほぼゼロです。

今回は犯罪者と鉢合わせることがなかったので良かったのですが、万が一、彼が犯人と鉢合わせていたら、と思うとゾッとします。本当に被害が車だけで良かったと思います。不幸中の幸いです。

コロナ下において、少しでも感染リスクを落とすために、週二日ほど、時差で出勤していました。ですから、職場には誰もいない状況において、万が一、犯人と遭遇していたとしたらー。犯行が見つかって動揺した犯人が銃を発砲して、その玉が当たったとしたら、そして、朝まで誰にも見つけてもらうことができなかったかもしれません。

最悪のことを考えれば、そういうことだってあり得たのではないか、と思います。旦那もそれを考えてしばらく落ち込んでいました。考えれば考えるほど、本当にゾッとします。アメリカ人の皆さん、本当に一般市民が銃を持つメリットってあるんでしょうか？デメリットの方がデカくないですか？将来のアメリカのことも考えて真剣に考えるべきことの一つだと思います。

さて、これについては本題から外れるので、この辺にしておきます。

で、今回の、具体的な被害はと言うと、まずは車の窓が粉々に破られたこと、盗難被害は、確実にわかっているものは、現金２００ドルほど、電子機器、Rossと言うディスカウントショップで購入した１０ドル前後の安物のサングラス（いったいどうするんでしょうか）、タイヤの空気圧を図る棒、（これも本当にどうするのでしょうか。質屋に流すと言ってもねぇ）家の車庫の閉口をさせるセンサー（こんなもん転売できんの？）、割られたガラスの修理代を考えますと被害額６万ほどと言うところでしょうか。これで犯人が得たものは現金２００ドル、プラス、質屋でものが売れたら数ドル程度。こんなもののために、危険を冒してすることなんでしょうか。こんな犯罪を犯す手間と、リスクを考えたら、リスクの方が大きい気がするんですけどね。万が一、うちの旦那が柔道と空手の黒帯所持者でしかも、銃とナイフを常に携帯している筋肉隆々の男だとして鉢合わせて返り討ちに遭うとか、普通に警察に見つかって検挙される、とか、そう言ったリスクを考えると割に合わない犯罪だと思うんですが。まぁ、そう言う事を想像ができないから犯罪を犯すのでしょうけど。ただただ、教育の必要性を感じますね。きちんとしたまともな教育さえ受けていれば、どれだけこう言った犯罪がどれだけコスとパフォーマンスの悪い事かわかると思うのですが。
まぁ、そういったことも考えられないからこう言った犯罪を犯すのでしょ。まじで犯人はただの馬鹿だと思います。私は今、犯人に対しては思い切り誹謗中傷したい気持ちでいっぱいです。

とにかく、旦那が無事に帰ってきて安堵したのが、夜中の２時前。あ、後、車自体の機能が壊されていなくて良かったです。そんな時間に車が動かない、としたらそれこそ悲劇ですからね。

ただ無事に帰り着いて、落ち着いて考えてみると、やっぱり怒りが沸沸と湧き上がってきました。人のものを盗んだり、傷つける事を生業にする人間って一体何でしょう。なぜわざわざ積極的に他人に迷惑をかけて生きていられるクズ人間がいるのか。あらゆる犯罪が起こる理由を、貧富の差だとか、社会の仕組みのせいにする人もいますが、結局のところ、犯罪を犯すか、犯さないかは、本人次第。本当にこういうクソみたいな犯罪が無くなればいいのにな、と思います。

一言で、この人たちに、

面倒かけんなやー！！！！クソが！

と思いっきりパンチしたい気分ですね。まぁ、出来ませんけど。とりあえず、どこかの時点できちんと捕まって罪を償って欲しいものです。
