Attraction to Australia
I came to Australia, I realized the difference between Japan and Australia.
I really like the people, how they're living here and the nature what Australia has. And the weather.
I kind of understand. I also went to Australia for a working holiday.
People are very friendly and open mind. You loved it and decided to live for a long time.
At first, I was planning one year.
And then where I used to work, that's where I met my husband.
So that made me stay here longer.
So I went to get student visa after working holiday.
And then I went to school in Sydney.
And over there, at first I had to go take English class first. Because my English wasn't good enough to get another course.
So after the working holiday, you get a student visa and study?
Yes.
Oh, I see.
After I finished my English course, I got a hospitality, tourism course.

Studying hospitality and tourism
That's the one we learned about how to book a flight ticket with the system that's where travel agency use.
It was quite interesting because I had to make my own tour plan.
For foreign people to plan a day to go to Japan.
And you can do this and do that.
Oh, I see. So your job is more to advise the local people to go to Japan and plan something?
Yes. That was one of the themes.
So each student, they have to make like a what would you do if there was a Brazilian student. Then she made about Brazil and there was an Italian student. And then she did as a tour in Italy.
Oh, interesting. My imagination is like, welcoming the Japanese tourists to Australia. That's what I thought. But it's the very opposite.
Support people to go Japan. It's very interesting.
Local experiences for tourists
I still remember I made my plan named as Inaka Vibe. I wanted to show foreign tourist people to know about the Inaka culture in Japan.
So I made a plan as a homestay in one of the farms in the rural area.
And then experience how they grow the rice field and then drive the tractor and stuff.
It's interesting. It's actually good. Because normal tourist cannot experience such a very local things.
I did that for 2 years. It was 2 years course.
Learning English through movies and work
I was at the school for 2 years and a half including the English class.

Learning English through movies and work
Before coming to Australia, your English was very good like now?
No. Not at all. I like to study English on my own.
I watched many movies and TV programs in English. English subtitles.
And also as I said before I was working at the international bar in Osaka.
Oh, international bar.
Over there, the customers were half Japanese and the other half were foreign people. I had to take an order and stuff in English.
It was quite a good environment for me to use English and practice how to communicate in English. It's a very international environment.
Yes, it was. It was in Japan after you worked in the international bar and come to Australia.
Since then, have you keep being in Australia?

Moving to Australia with husband
I came in 2010 for working holiday.
I met my husband. I was in Sydney for 4 years.
Then we realized that I'm pregnant.
For that reason, I had to go back to Japan to have baby.
At first, we thought maybe a year is the longest but I realized there's a second baby coming up in the following year.
So I ended up staying in Japan for 4 years.
It's good. Your parents are very happy about having you.I think so.
I've been here since May 2019.
How different is the city, Sydney and Brisbane?
Sydney is a bigger city than Brisbane.
There are more multinational people there. It's so busy.
Especially I had 2 kids when I came back to Australia in 2019.
I felt like it's hard to move around with 2 little kids.
Sydney is good for young people.
It's like Tokyo. I see.
Brisbane is more like lay back. It's not too big, not too small.
There are many beautiful parks for kids.
I've been there once.
Oh, really? I didn't know. You've been to Brisbane as well?
Yes. I had a friend.I did a homestay. It's a bit complicated. The father's son-in-law was living there.
I stayed with him for 1 week. Just travelling.
Do you remember where you went in Brisbane?
I forgot the place name. I went to the city centre.
I was very surprised. There was a lizard in the park.

Lizards in Brisbane Park
Yeah, there are lizards in South Bank.
There's a botanic garden as well. There are lizards everywhere.
Yes, I was really surprised. They're quite big too.
Some of them are quite big and they've got long tails.
Yes, yes, yes. I've never seen that in Japan so I was very surprised.
It's very close to Gold Coast. Yes, not too far, like one hour drive.
It's closer to, I mean faster to get there by car than by train.
Train, I think it would take about two hours.
Yeah, it's good to go to the beach. I love beaches.
Going to Gold Coast during summer
In summer, I usually take my kids to Gold Coast.
Yeah, and there's a place where pelicans are hanging around.
Oh, pelicans. Wow.
Pelicans, yeah. And there's no big waves.
It's like a lagoon so it's quite calm and it's safer for kids.
Yes, yes. I want to go to Australia again.
Yeah, you should come. You can stay at my place.
Oh, yeah, we'd love to.
Thank you.
You don't mind?
No, I really want to go. Yeah, yeah, yeah, please.
Yeah, any time. Okay, thank you.
