Megane-Bridge was built in 1634, when Christianity was banned, and while Buddhist temples were being built one after another, a buddist Nyojo Mokusu of Kofuku-ji built it.  It is said that they built a strong stone bridge by summoning masons from China because they could not bear to see the bridge washed away every time the Nakashima River flooded.

 It is said that the name was given because the shadows reflected on the surface of the river draw double circles and look like "glasses", and it is counted as one of Japan's three famous bridges. It is also designated as an important cultural property.

 There are 10 bridges on the Nakashima River, including Megane-bashi Bridge.  The heart stone on the bank of river is attracting attention as a power spot for fulfilling love, so be sure to look for it when you visit.

 During the hydrangea season, various types of hydrangeas are grown in planters along the road and are in full bloom.
 It can also be enjoyed as a feature of the rainy season.

The illuminated faces at night are also full of charm, especially during the Lantern Festival, which is a winter tradition in Nagasaki on Feb.

The surrounding area is also dotted with ice cream stalls and stylish cafes that are full of Nagasaki.  Be sure to visit Meganebashi Bridge, a popular photogenic tourist attraction.
