今日は外国に来て感じる居心地の良さについて。

訪れた国の現地人の優しさの解釈を間違えるな、という話です。

事前にネットで調べた時も、実際セブに到着して出会った日本人の友人も、
「フィリピン人めっちゃ優しい！」「すごいフレンドリー！」って口を揃えて言う。
勿論それは僕もで、同じことを言ってた。

だけど今日とある飲食店の手伝いをしている時に、こんな質問をされたんです。

「フィリピン人の印象はどんな感じ？」
「すっごいフレンドリーで優しい！」
「そうだよーフィリピン人はみんなめっちゃええやつやろー。しかもyouはゲストだからね！」

…ん？ゲストだから？

「ゲストとして扱ってるの？」
「そりゃ勿論Youはボスの友人だからね！ hahaha!」
「いやいや！ 同僚として接してくれ！ 畏まったりゲストとしての扱いはしないでくれ！」

その後会話の調子はちょっとくだけたものの、やっぱり必要以上に優しくて。

自分も日本で、外国人のバックパッカーを高速道路で拾ったり、筑波大学は留学生が多くて沢山の外国人と出会った。
そういえば初対面の、頑張って日本語を話そうとしている外国人にはそりゃ優しい気持ちで接したっけ。

ただのビジターといざ隣に住むとなると態度変わるでしょ、という話。

自分もまだまだゲストとしての扱いをされている。
これがその国の人々の普通だとは思ってはいけない。
いけないけど、彼らの優しさであることは間違いないわけで。それにはとてもでっかい感謝をしなきゃいけないと思ったのです。

Today’s topic is feeling comfort in foreign countries.

I say that do not misunderstand the kindness of foreigners.

Almost all Japanese say Filipino(na) are very kind and very friendly.
I heard it from the Internet to search about Philippines in advance and my classmates of English school in Cebu city.

Of course so did I.

But today I was asked a question at the certain restaurant’s kitchen.

"How do you feel Philippine people?"

"Very caring and very friendly."

"Yes that’s right they’re so nice hahaha and you’re the guest that’s why"

…Am I the guest??

"Am I the guest to you?"

"Yes of course you’re important guest of our boss hahaha"

"No no no! Please communicate with me as just a co-worker! Don’t treat me as a guest!"

Then his talk got little bit casual but I felt it was not for like friends or co-workers.

In my case I also have met some foreigners at the truck center on the highway and around the university in Japan.
I remember that I communicated with much kindness to foreigners trying to speak Japanese I met first time at that time.

It’s natural that there are important difference between just tourist and moving to, living in or stay in Cebu.

I’ve stayed in Cebu city for about two months but I feel I’ve been recognized as a tourist yet.
I must not understand that foreigner’s kindness I felt is just normal. It’s kind of for tourists.
Do not misunderstand, whereas, definitely their kindness is true indeed.
I must appreciate very much.
