【Bainbridge Island Historical Museum】
シアトルからフェリーで約30分、緑豊かなベインブリッジ島を散策。ここは映画にもなり、工藤夕貴がヒロインを演じた『ヒマラヤ杉に降る雪(Snow Falling on Cedars, 1999)』の舞台のモデルと言われており、事実81年前、西海岸で一番最初に日系の方々が家や財産を奪われ強制収容所送りとなった所なのですね。ミュージアムはこじんまりとしているものの、地元の歴史を語り継いでゆこうという空気に満ちあふれており、ボランティアスタッフの方々はとても親切。日系だけではなくIndipino(母方がネイティブ系、父方がフィリピン系)のコミュニティ史も興味深いものだった。撮影可。(4/21)
