社会の矛盾やそれに対する反抗を歌ったアメリカのモダンフォークの影響を受け、日本でも独自のフォークが誕生した。

新たな音楽ジャンルの誕生であり、関西を中心に広がった"プロテスト・ソング"に関しては、学生運動が活発化していた日本国内の象徴とも言えるような"反戦・反権力の代弁"だった。

多くの曲が放送禁止になるほどに歌詞は強烈だったが、"本当の自由"や"人間本来の生き方"を訴える曲も多い。

70年代に入り、青春・恋愛などのパーソナルな心情を歌う曲が増え、フォークはアングラからメジャーへと移り変わっていくことになる。

In the 70's, the number of songs singing personal feelings such as youth and romance increased, and Folk changed from underground to major.
