「お前！ウソついただろ！！」と言われたら、とりあえず、否定したくなるのが人間だ。

It's human nature to deny it if you are told, "You're lying!"

後先考えず、脊髄反射で思わず答えてしまう。
誰しも一つや二つは、身に覚えがあるだろう。

One just answers involuntarily and without thinking.
Everyone remembers having done so once or twice.

今年に入ってから、DeepFakeと呼ばれる動画をSNSで見かけることが多くなった。
本人がしゃべっていないのに、しゃべった風に見えるアレだ。
こんな感じ。

Since the beginning of this year, I have often seen videos called DeepFake on social networks.
Even though the person is not talking, it looks like they are.
It looks like this.

 

薬物で捕まった俳優の差し替えとかに、使えそうではあるが、反面、大きなリスクもある。
まだ大きな事件は起きていないが、いずれ政治家か芸能人か経済人か私人かは分からないけれど、DeepFake技術を使った大きな冤罪事件が起きると思う。
本人はしゃべっていないのに、SNS上で画像や動画が拡散してしまえば、後から訂正することはかなり難しくなる。

Although it can be used, for instance, to replace actors who were arrested on drug charges, there are also major risks associated to it.
No major incidents have happened yet, but I think a major misrepresentation incident using DeepFake technology will occur. Whether it'll happen to a politician, an entertainer, an economist or just an individual, I do not know.
Even if the person involved in the incident did not do the talking, if images and videos spread on social networks, clearing that up afterwards will be very difficult.

「証拠の写真があるじゃないか？？」
「ヘタな言い訳はやめろ！！ダセーな。」
といった誹謗中傷が、巻き起こるだろう。
「この証拠は偽物なんだよ！ホントだよ！」といっても時すでに遅し。

People will slander others, and say things such as "Do you have a picture of the evidence?"
"Stop making lame excuses!"
Even if one were to say "This is fake! It's true!" it would already be too late.

疑われている本人が、まるで脊髄反射的に否定しているように感じてしまい、大衆の多くは騙されてしまうだろう。
先に情報が拡散してしまえば、誰も聞く耳を持たなくなってしまう。捏造された証拠にも関わらずだ。
そんなこんなを、今月に入りボンヤリと考えていたところ、ある企画を思いついてしまった。DeepFakeな写真や動画へのリテラシーを高めるアート企画だ。

Most of the public will be deceived, because they will think the suspected individual is just decrying their innocence reflexively.
When information spreads first, no one listens afterwards, even in spite of the evidence being forged.
This month, I was thinking idly about these things, and came up with a certain plan. It is an art project meant to enhance literacy for DeepFake photos and videos.

のようなDeepFake画像をSNSに投稿して、このような画像が簡単に作れるようになったことを広めていく。
Posting DeepFake images or videos like these on social media will help spread the fact that such images can be created with ease.

意図的に作られた、多くのDeepFake画像が広まれば、
それが真実なのかどうか、一度立ち止まることの重要性を、多く人に警鐘できるハズだ。

If DeepFake images were created and circulated intentionally, it would be possible to warn many people of the importance of stopping to think, whether it is the truth or not. 

ついでなので、ちょっとした漫画動画も作ってみた。
要は、こんな事件が起こるかも・・・ということである。

I made a little cartoon animation as well.
The point of it is that such an incident may occur.

もっと直接的に言えば.....、その反社との記念写真は、偽物かもしれませんよ？？
写真一つがキッカケで、宮迫さんのような悲しい状態になるのは、誰にとっても良いことじゃない。

To put it more simply, the idea is to make someone wonder if the photo with this member of an organized crime group may be fake.

数年後、DeepFakeな冤罪事件が起きる時に、この企画が、そのワクチンとなればいいなぁ…。
という事で、ありきたりではあるが、この企画をDeep Fake Art Project（ディープ・フェイク・アート・プロジェクト）と名付けてみることにした。

When a DeepFake incident happens in a few years, I would hope that this project functioned as a vaccine of sorts.
In following with convention, I decided to call this the Deep Fake Art Project.

画像加工技術を持っていて、なおかつ奇特な人は、是非参加してみて欲しい。参加する方法は簡単。
instagramやtwitter等々のSNSに、(#DeepFakeArtProject)か（#DFAP) のハッシュタグをつけて、Deep Fake画像や動画を投稿するだけだ。

If you have image processing technology and consider yourself a benevolent person, please consider joining us. The way to participate is very easy.
Just post a Deep Fake image or video with the hashtag (#DFAP) or (#DeepFakeArtProject) on Instagram, Twitter, and other social networks.

賛同者は誰もいないような気もするが、ひとまず自分だけでも、やってみようと思う。
徒労に終わるかも知れないが、思いついてしまったのだから、仕方がない。
I feel like it may not get much support, but as a start I'm going to try doing it myself.
It may end in nothing but wasted effort, but I came up with the idea, so I must go through with it.

「でも、やるんだよ！」じゃなくて、「すぐ、やるんだよ！」が、令和時代の正解のような気がする。
I think the right way to do things during the Reiwa era is summed up, not by "I'm going to do this in spite of everything!", but rather by "I'll get this done right away!"
