Our Approach to Safety

At REALITY, you can break free from the constraints of the real world to become “whoever you want” and express yourself in several ways. 
We have users who actively pursue their dreams and objectives, users who support those giving their best in their activities, users who just want to enjoy a relaxed REALITY lifestyle, and many other forms of becoming whoever you want. 

In order to make REALITY a place where many people can connect and engage in a variety of activities, we believe that it is necessary to make REALITY a safe environment for the community to use. We have been working on various initiatives such as strengthening audits and developing functions to make REALITY safer. On the other hand, we have not disclosed to you our specific efforts and the number of detections to date.

To ensure that everyone can enjoy REALITY with peace of mind, we have decided to launch a Transparency Report this month to disclose the number of issues that have been addressed, our efforts to improve safety, problems reported by users, and our policy for resolving these issues. The Transparency Report will be updated monthly.

Number of Cases Handled - November 2023

In November, although the number of reports decreased compared to the previous month, there was a significant increase in the detection of fraudulent activities related to events. Additionally, as part of our continued efforts to crack down on actions seeking romantic encounters, penalties, and usage restrictions saw a substantial increase compared to the previous month.

In particular, the number of fraudulent activities related to events has doubled since the previous month, partly influenced by the "15 Million Downloads Celebration Campaign." As a result, approximately 5,000 accounts have been subject to penalties.

Efforts in November 2023

Improvements to the Blocking Feature

We have been addressing the frequent requests for enhancements to the blocking feature, and on December 11th (Japan time), we released the first set of improvements, including:

• The ability to block or report users who have blocked you from their profile page.

• Blocked users' streams will not be displayed in the live list.

  • Previously, it could be displayed under certain conditions such as collaborative broadcasts.

Additionally, we plan to implement further enhancements, such as hiding comments from blocked users during third-party streams and will continue to address these in subsequent updates.

Regarding the mass reporting of the same user

As previously mentioned in the Safety Report for September, the likelihood of receiving penalties and the severity of the penalties does not increase with the number of reports. This includes actions like "repeatedly reporting the same user" or "mass reporting a user". Some cases involve a single user using multiple accounts to mass report a specific user, and instances of over 600 reports in a month have been observed.

These mass reporting incidents, often performed for purposes like "retaliation against disliked users" or "undermining competitors in events," are carefully reviewed by the moderation team. Each report is examined individually to distinguish between valid reports and those without a basis, and appropriate actions are taken. While reports made for retaliatory or undermining purposes are not accepted, to increase the likelihood of penalties when confirming violation,

• The person who confirmed the violation should be the one reporting it;

• Via the in-app reporting feature;

• Following the instructions in the reporting guide, please accurately select "Reporting Target" and "Reason for Reporting"

The above is necessary to increase the effectiveness of your report.

For situations similar to: “I have reported this user several times and they were not banned yet”, it is important to check if your reports are following the guidelines provided by the REALITY team rather than submitting multiple reports indiscriminately, and we ask for your cooperation following the guidelines when reporting.
