Scope of Archeology In India:

Candidates can get jobs in the government sector by giving an exam. This exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission or Staff Selection Commission.

Eligibility Criteria:

There are mainly three areas of employment for an Archaeologist: 

Teaching 

Research 

Working in museums 

In terms of qualifications, a science background is preferred, generally, for a B.Sc. program in Archeology. Students with a background in Arts can also apply to pursue a course in Archeology. For instance, a Bachelor's degree (BA) in History or other related fields will be acceptable. 

B.Scin Archeology is for the duration of three years and after one can specialize in any of the branches at M. Sc, M.Phil levels. Further, there are candidates. who want to become a.part of the international development agencies as an advisor. They should preferably have a Ph.D. degree in the subject. 

Role and Duties of an Archaeologist: 

There are many job titles in the field of Archeology and not all of them will consist of digging and excavating items buried thousands of years ago.The role and responsibilities will vary in terms of the nature of the job. But if we talk about the job role of an Archaeologist, his duties consist of the following things: 

1. Identify and examine sites using a variety of methods, including field walking, geophysical surveys, aerial photography, etc.

2. Operate on field excavations or digs, usually as part of a team, practicing Range Of Digging A Equipment.

3. Outline Excavation, Including Leading Teams Of Diggers.

4. RecordSites Using Drawings, Detailed Notes, And Photography.

5. Analyze Findings By Grouping, Identifying And Classifying Them. 

6. Utilize computer applications, such as computer-aided design (CAD) and geographical information systems (GIS), to document and evaluate finds, sites, and landscapes. 

7. Employ computers to design simulations of the way a building, site or artifact would have looked. 

8. Clean and conserve find. 

9. Conduct laboratory tests, such as radiocarbon dating, and research and desk-based assessments of sites. 

Salary Prospects: 

While There Are Plenty Of Job Vacancies In India In This Field, Archaeologists Are Not Amongst The Highest Paid Professionals. Fresher, You Can Expect A Salary Between INR 2.5 To 3.5 LPA. With Experience, It Can Reach INR 5 To 8 LPA.  However, salary packages are highly variable and depend on a lot of factors such as education, level of skills, experience, etc.A doctoral degree is a necessity for a good salary package as well as better opportunities in this field.
