イギリスのバンド、クイーンは2018年の映画「ボヘミアン・ラプソディ」によって再び脚光を浴びた感がありました。

クイーンのギタリスト、ブライアン・メイ（Braian May）さんによると、名曲「ボヘミアン・ラプソディ」が収録されたアルバム「オペラ座の夜（A Night At The Opera, 1975）」がバンド存続の分岐点になったとのことです。

この「オペラ座の夜」の次にリリースされたのが「華麗なるレース（A Day At The Races, 1976）」で、内容的に２つのアルバムは対になっています。

アルバムジャケットは、当時のクイーンの4人のメンバー、フレディ・マーキュリーさん（Freddie Mercury, 9月5日生まれの乙女座）、ブライアン・メイさん（7月19日生まれの蟹座）、ジョン・ディーコンさん（John Deacon, 8月19日生まれの獅子座）、ロジャー・テイラーさん（Roger Taylor, 7月26日生まれの獅子座）の星座をあしらったフレディさんが描いたロゴマークを中心に据えて、白と黒の背景、筆記体のバンド名とタイトル名、曲順などが対象的になっています。

しかも、両者ともタイトル名は、マルクス兄弟の映画「オペラは踊る」（1935）と「マルクス一番乗り」（1937）にちなんだものです。

筆者は、この２つのアルバムを何回聴いたかわからないほど聴いてきましたが、その中で、ふとしたときに思い浮かんでくるメロディーが「華麗なるレース」に収録されたロジャーさんの曲「さまよい」です。本日はこの曲を紹介します。
