Odyssey Navigating Nameless Seas @ Singapore Art Museum

After pre-employment medical checkup today I ventured to the Singapore Art Museum alone to visit the new exhibition. Admission is free for locals, $10 for foreigners. It was really an impromptu decision but I am glad I popped by to check the lovely installations out! Here are some photos from Level 2 of the exhibit.

Dangling whales that seem to be flying?
I am not really sure what this meant.

a ship made of fabric plastered to the wall... as well as one made out of cardboard!!

would you look at that massive ship!! this installation is supposed to draw reference from the diaspora of many who do not have a fixed place to live, always sailing in search of change and a better home that is not as precarious! the artists themselves were diaspora artists who moved from the Philippines to Australia. The use of wood and cardboard boxes was immensely creative and well done!

And then the highlight of the exhibit is this dark room where digital robotic creatures dwell..

Behold barnicles that look like flowers. They were synchronised in such a way that the lights will all turn off at some point, leaving the room in pitch black darkness!

this weird flappy squid thing seems to be from the deep ocean of the future..

Next up is a simple picture of the sea...

But on closer inspection...

it is a actually a collage of images of marine trash, signifying the wastefulness of our consumerist contemporary society. very insightful.

this room has this ghostly blue dress that shimmers I have no idea what the relevance to the sea this has

Do check out this exhibition if you are in Singapore
