Hanabi-instruction for kids

I mean that Hanabi is a small type of fireworks which kids can handle. Usually, they are less than 40cm, played on hands, not launched high into the air.
In our guest house, visitors often bring fireworks which they buy in a supermarket or other store in this islnad. (ofcouse, they cannot bring them by airplane)
In these days, there are few place where is permitted to play with fireworks especially in a big city. So a lot of tourists expect that they can show Hanabi for their kids in an island. Even in a island, you may be blamed if you play Hanabi in downtown area. But our guest house is in a small village of countryside and no one care about small amout of smoke or noise that Hanabi makes.
In the season of summer vacation, we have a lot of visitors, and many of them bring Hanabi in. 3 or 4 times a week, we assist them to play Hanabi with their kids or other visitors. So in these 8 years, I found how to handle and instruct kids when we play Hanabi with them safely without loosing joy.

INTRODUCTION

At first, we have to be strict to kids just becouse we handle fire. You must be looked up by kids to avoid unexpected incidents. It is a sake for both kids and adults. A bucket filled with about quarter volume of water must be prepared for extinguish remaining fire. And ofcouse a lighter. With long nose and windproof is better.

  1. Call kids and order to gather around you. Usually they are too excited to notice your voice. But do not hesiteate. And speak to them in loud voice and strict way, like this.
"Come to me and listen carefully. You must follow my instruction or you CANNOT play. Raise your hands if you understand."

  2. Let kids know where the bucket with water is. And following is the points to let them know. They can handle only one Hanabi at the same time. They have to stand in a line to get Hanabi fire. They cannot swing around Hanabi or point other kids with it. When fire is gone, they have to despose Hanabi into the bucket immediately and have to know that the Hanabi is still flammable and dangerous.

  3. Everything must be done in safe and organized way and it provides joy and satisfaction.Never let kids underestimate you and fire. It couses a lot of frustration and may brings serious incidents.

A visitor brought some Hanabi at this New Year Day and we played with them. Even for us, it is an unusual case in this middle of winter. I worried about rain and strong wind but somehow we could play. I think this must be a good memory for kids.
