「無限スクロールの終わる夜に」

リクルートスーツに身を包み就活したり、就職したら通勤ラッシュで苦労する。周りに合わせておけば、わざわざ道を外れるよりも選択を簡略化でき、そういうモノだという共通見解が通用する楽さがある。

言及するまでも無く、写真を撮る障害は低く流通量は増えている。写真に特化したスマホアプリのInstagramを見ると、似たような写真が何度も登場する。それでも、飽きずにスクロールして、画面をタップしてリアクションをしている。たとえ、大きな災害を経験しても、混ざっては、小さくなり、淡々と時間が過ぎている。問題は解決する前に次の問題へと移っていく。通勤ラッシュもリクルートスーツも観光名所として名指しされたまま。

データ化され流通するイメージからわかるコトは、誰が撮影して何が写っているか、詳細な情報がなくても表層からなんとなく意味がわかれば良い。複製して言葉を入れ替え、内容を変更することも安易にできる。目の前にある情報量はさらに増えた、けれども情報を処理する身体は変わっていない。そのために、データは解析されて、誰でも判断できる情報量に落とし込まれる。年齢、性別、嗜好などからおすすめを提示するレコメンドは、自分がどこを向いているかがわかる。彼らとは違う。と思っていても、いつ何が起こるかわからない。レコメンドもまだ不完全。情報は簡単に手に入る。簡単に分類されていて。簡単に導きの手は差し出される。見ているのか、見られているのか、気付いた時にはルールの上で動かされている。

A night of endless scrolling

Putting on the same old suit to look for a job; finding a job and wearing yourself out on the daily commute. If you tune yourself to those around you, choices become simpler than just getting out of the way. It's easy let yourself think that's just how it is, like everyone else.
The amount of information we intake is increasing as the barrier for taking pictures becomes lower and lower without a thought towards what they allude to. With just a glance at Instagram, a smartphone application specialized for viewing photos, one can see the same kinds of photos getting uploaded over and over again. Even still, we never get bored of it. Rather, we keep scrolling on endlessly, clicking the screen to interact with what we see. It's like someone who's lived through a disaster, but slowly that experience becomes fainter as time passes by indifferently. We go on to the next problem before solving the first one. The daily commute and the same old suit are left as nothing but tourist attractions.
What we've learned from the circulation of digitized images is that we can understand their basic meanings--things like who took the picture and what they're taking a picture of--without the need for any kind of detailed information. It's easy enough to duplicate, or to change the words or the content of what we see. The amount of data in front of us is rapidly growing, but our ability to process information hasn't changed. For that reason, data is analyzed as an amount of information undecipherable to any human is constantly processed. You can ascertain what your life is becoming by looking at the algorithmic recommendations based on age, sex, and your personal preferences. At least, we assume that's the way things are, but there's no telling what will happen at any given time. Those recommendations are still imperfect. All that data is easily accessible. We are easily categorized, and easily guided to what we should see or do next. When we finally notice whether we are the watchers or the watched, we will be processed according to the rules.
