How to improve your planning skills in the ChatGPT era

The emergence of self-AI

The year 2023 has been special in the sense that everyone has had the opportunity to interact with AI. Needless to say, this has been due to the emergence of ChatGPT (which actually appeared in October 2022 in Japan, but became widespread in 2023).

Until now, when we talked about AI, it was something that could only be mastered by specialized companies with knowledge of AI or IT engineers, and we, the general public, could only watch what they were doing from the sidelines. However, with the advent of ChatGPT, anyone can now have a one-on-one conversation with AI.

That said, those who have taken an interest in and tried ChatGPT might still be in the minority. However, it is clear that a world is coming where everyone will have AI by their side and use it as a matter of course every day.

As we have seen with the spread of smartphones, when groundbreaking technological innovations become popular, there is no doubt that the world changes significantly. This time, it is even more epoch-making because it involves AI. How will the world actually change when AI becomes "everyone's AI"?

One thing that can be said is that, just like smartphones, AI will likely become something very personal, like "my AI", especially this time, it is expected to significantly change the way individuals work.

I, the author, have happened to be engaged in the specialized profession of planning for nearly 40 years. As a white-collar worker, I certainly cannot be indifferent to the above trend.

So, how will the job of planning change? Naturally, I started to have such thoughts personally.

Intuitively, I felt that its importance would increase. This is because, as is commonly said, if AI takes over simple intellectual tasks and human creativity is to be challenged from now on, planning is at the core of this. Perhaps, I even feel that planning might become one of the central tasks for humanity. (To be continued)
